15-Oct 1984, Teatro Tenda Pianeta 7UP, Roma, Italy

Hi there!
Since the 14th & 16th Oct. 84 Rome shows are present on the tracker (see Catalogue http://www.zappateers.com/bb/viewtopic.php?t=6944), I decided to re-seed the missing piece of the "Rome Trilogy" from the old tracker (it was a new uncirculated source containing Zoot Allures, missing in the more circulated recording). I have changed the folder/files names to comply with the Seed Conventions (I added the string "841510[space]Rome[space]" to the original file names, while the new infofile name is: "1984 10 15 Rome info.txt". I also added the fingerprint file. The original photo is still there! (BTW, I was young and broken, and that was one of my most memorable birthdays in terms of presents received: FZ show ticket + Them Or Us (2lp, just released) + Dead Girls Of Glasgow boot)
On request, I can also re-seed walk's source!

Here's the original info file:

Frank Zappa
15-Oct 1984
Teatro Tenda Pianeta 7UP, Rome, Italy

New Source: 94 min, Aud, B/B+ (2nd gen)
Lineage: Sharp Stereo Portable Rec.> cass > Technics RS-BX606 tape Deck / SoundMax Integrated Digital Audio > wav CEP (acquisition & tracking & fills) > flac frontend (level 6)
Taped by: MP (Gepy Ridonzoli)

File Size: 600 MB (FLAC)

Source for the fills: 89 min, Aud, B (1st & 2nd gen)
Lineage: AUD > ? > cass/? > A/D nakamichi/Audiophile 2496 > wav CEP (tracked only) > flac frontend (SBE aligned) & CDR
Taped by: N/A
Transfered by: walk

Frank Zappa's Band
Robert Martin (Bobby) - keyboards, tenor saxophone, French horn, vocals

Alan Zavod - keyboards

setlist:

01 Zoot Allures (few initial bars missing)
02 City Of Tiny Lights
03 You Are What You Is
04 Mudd Club
05 The Meek Shall Inherit nothing
06 Drowning Witch
07 Black Page #2
08 Alien Orifice
09 Cocaine Decisions
10 Nig Biz (walk's source from 03:30 to 04:17)
11 Tinseltown Rebellion
12 More Trouble Every Day
13 Penguin In Bondage (q. Arrivederci Roma, La Marseillese)
14 Hot Plate Heaven At The Green Hotel
15 Joe's Garage
16 Why Does It Hurt When I Pee?
17 The Closer You Are
18 Johnny Darling
19 No No Cherry
20 Cosmik Debris
21 Baby Take Your Teeth Out
22 Whipping Post (walk's source from 06:01 to the end)

Notes:
The initial few bars of Zoot Allures are missing
The tapeflip occurs in the middle of Nig Biz (missing part reintegrated)
Whipping Post was cut at the end of FZ's solo. (missing part reintegrated)

In the tape the volume rises in the middle of City Of Tiny Lites. I didn't correct this - I think anyone can adjust this easily if he/she wants. My intention was to seed the recording "as it is" (except for the necessary fills).

I suggest to split the show between Nig Biz and Tinseltown.

Here are N-Lites notes, from walk's info file:
In 1984 FZ was supposed to perform at Rome's Palasport (aka PalaEur) on October 15th. Tickets were printed and sold. Three days before the show a union strike was announced and the concert cancelled. So they decided to move it to Teatro Tenda Pianeta, a much smaller venue, actually a big circus tent, so to cover all the pre-sold tickets they decided to have three shows instead of one!
That's why he performed on the 14th, 15th and the 16th.
Actually it turned out to be a good change. The smaller place had better acoustics and it was the first time I could attend a FZ show sitting on a chair.

My notes:
I was at this show. I remember vaguely that the show began with a kind of impromptu song in which (I think) Ike Willis played with a basket ball and FZ said "He used to be a basketball player" while a rubber chicken swung across the stage.
The references to basket during the show (among which "City of tiny basketball players") are due to the fact that that year Bancoroma (Rome's basketball team) had won the European Championship.

credits:
many thanks to walk for the original seed and for "ringing a bell" in my mind about the other tape.
many many thanks to MP for the tape

There may even be 3 different sources for this show, because I have one that begins with some warm-up noises and FZ saying "our first song tonight is Zoot Allures", and then ZA starts. No "He used to be a basketball player", though.

Oh, it would be nice to hear that one, Jon!
As for the "basketball player": I was there and, though I don't remember precisely evry detail, I can assure you I saw Ike playing with a basket ball and, amidst some "musical background", Frank said "He used..." etc. I also remember this rubber chicken that swung across the stage... (The circus-surprise effect was similar to the one experienced in '88 with the Histoire Du Soldat / Bartok excerpts during Packard Goose). Anyway, I think I'm going to see a doctor! Wink
