On behalf of Charles Ulrich, here's something interesting: a raw tape rip of

22-Sep 1972, Felt Forum, NYC, NY
82 min, Aud, B/B-
Intro/soundcheck, improvisations, Dog Meat, New Brown Clouds, Penis Dimension, Regyptian Strut, Big Swifty

CU's comments:
With Oscar's new Zappateers Catalogue, it should be easier to
identify items on my cassette list that might be worth digitizing.

One that I can think of off the top of my head is 9/22/72 New York
(the first Grand Wazoo show in NY, not the 9/23/72 show with the
Comic Book Extravaganza). I don't know the generation, but consider
the following:

Many of my cassettes came from future Zappateers (e.g. Jon, Bill,
Drew, Pat), which means that they have copies that are one generation
better than mine. But 9/22/72 New York came from a Swedish guy who
subsequently disappeared. It wasn't even listed on FZShows until I
told Jon about it. So that's a case where those guys got their copies
from me, and thus theirs are one generation worse.

What's more, the 9/22/72 New York show has a *lengthy* improvisation,
so it's significantly different than any other GW show.

I just digitized this tape and can't tell you yet exactly where the tape flips happen and which portion of the show might be missing. I'll supply more details shortly.

Cool. I was just thinking this would be my "most wanted" show out of those listed on FZShows.

What a great find, thx globual, and thanks to cu for sharing his low gen tape with us.

This recording is running very slow, and the second part (samples 04,05, 06 - side B of the tape?) may be hiding more speed fluctuations than we can tell by the samples.

Here's the suggested speed correction, based on the samples we're hearing here:

samples 01,02,03: +140cts

sample 04: +160cts
sample 05: +140cts
sample 06: +120cts

Really looking forward to this one. Thanks ...

thanks flambay. I'd like to post a few more samples from side2 really to nail down the values. Can you pick some areas that would be helpful? So far I've selected pretty much openings of each tune. Have a look at the set list (times before speed corrections). Side1 of the tape is occupied by Band Intro, Soundcheck and a major chunk of this improvised composition that makes it such a unique show:

(side1:)
01 Band Intro 10:30
02 Tuning (sample 1) 3:46 (+140 cts)
03 Random Weirdness (sample 2) 39:58 (tf at 34:23) (+140 cts)

(side2 of the tape starts off with the last 5:35 of Random Weirdness and is followed by:)
04 Intro to Dog Meat 1:29
05 Dog Meat (sample 3) 5:45 (+140 cts)
06 Intro to New Brown Clouds 1:33
07 New Brown Clouds (sample 4) 6:56 (+160 cts)
08 Intro to Penis Dimension and The Variant One Processional March 1:27
09 Penis Dimension (sample 5) 3:27 (+140 cts)
10 Regyptian Strut 3:57
11 Intro to Big Swifty 2:53
12 Big Swifty (sample 6) 7:58 (+120 cts)

I have added the required speed correction for each extra sample seeded here into the list posted earlier by globual,
by putting each extra sample into its "right" position in the list. Extra samples are marked green:

- 03 Random Weirdness (cont.) (extra sample) (+120cts; +130cts from source change, about 26 secs into sample)
04 Intro to Dog Meat 1:29
05 Dog Meat (sample 3) 5:45 (+140 cts)
- end of Dog Meat (extra sample) (+140 cts)
06 Intro to New Brown Clouds 1:33
07 New Brown Clouds (sample 4) 6:56 (+160 cts)
- end of New Brown Clouds (extra sample) (+150 cts)
08 Intro to Penis Dimension and The Variant One Processional March 1:27
09 Penis Dimension (sample 5) 3:27 (+140 cts)
10 Regyptian Strut 3:57
- end of Regyptian Strut (extra sample) (first ~10secs +130 cts, rest +120 cts)
11 Intro to Big Swifty 2:53
12 Big Swifty (sample 6) 7:58 (+120 cts, still fluctuating)
- end of Big Swifty (extra sample) (+120 cts, plus complex local fine tuning, between -10cts and +60cts)

Of course we still don't know if there's even more fluctuation going on throughout the recording beyond what we're hearing in the samples.
I'd say it's highly probable.
Especially the last three tracks could be hiding more surprises ...

Hope this helps, so far ...
