I needed a little distraction, this was perfect.

Artist: Frank Zappa
WPIX, NYC, NY FZ as DJ
Date: November 19th 1979
Source: FM (mono)
Lineage: FM>?>Maxell II-S Cassette>Gina20>Sound Forge (record/edits)>CDWave>
Shntool>FLAC Level 8

Set list:
1) Gangster - The Specials
2) Jerry & The Holograms - Jerry & The Holograms
3) Let Me Take You To The Beach - FZ
4) Rangehn - Nina Hagan
5) TV Drink - The Jets
6) Tough On You - The Plastics
7) Unbeschreiblich Weiblich - Nina Hagan
8) I Live In A Car - U.K. Subs
9) Bamboozled By Love w/ News over solo - FZ
10) I Ain't Got No Heart - FZ
11) Easy Meat - FZ
12) He's The Groove - Snooky Tate
13) Catholic Girls - FZ
14) ?
15) Marry Me - Robert and Johnny
16) Summertime Blues - The Flying Lizards
17) I'm The Man - Joe Jackson
18) In Cars - Gary Numan and The News
19) Heiss - Nina Hagan
20) Outside Now excerpt w/ overdubs? - FZ
21) Money - The Flying Lizards
22) ? - Nina Hagan
23) Regyptian Strut - FZ
24) announcements/news
25) Air - Talking Heads
26) Let Me Give You Money - The Pipes
27) ?
28) I Want Sex - The Reactors
29) Smart Boys - ?
30) Stay - The Frankie Valli and the 4 Seasons
31) ?
32) Manish Boy - Muddy Waters
33) What Kind Of Fool - The Tams

notes: Even though this is mono, don't let that stop you, way too interesting to
pass up. Being this is historical, and some collect commercials, air checks, I left
this intact. Change in sound that starts during "Air" is on master. This tape is
probably mono because of bad reception. Help to finish/refine set list appreciated.

edit notes: This tape had about 50 dropouts. Most are fixed, some remain.
Bass is a little heavy in very low end, no NR or EQ.

Thank you!!! I've been looking for a New York area "bogus DJ" set where my brother called in and Frank played Inca Roads for him..possibly a live version. Now this was years ago and my brothers memory is probably corrupted but does this ring a bell with anyone. Haven't seen Inca Roads listed on any of FZ's DJ sets on JN's site. Not sure if he talked to Frank on or off the air. Suffice to say he's been bugging me to find it..
ANYWAY...thanks again for this nice item!!!

It's not on this tape, And I just don't remember. Certainly live material played on about all of them. I didn't convert these, but here is a list of WPIX I have from cassette list.

9/6/79 WPIX (FZ as DJ) 25 minutes VG+ 2062
11/20/79 WPIX (FZ as DJ) extremely edited 90 minutes EX- 404
11/20/79 WPIX (FZ as DJ) Different Source 121 minutes EX- 1289,1293
11/21/79 WPIX (FZ as DJ) 123 minutes EX- 1289,1292
11/22/79 WPIX (FZ as DJ) extremely edited 90 minutes EX- 660
11/22/79 WPIX (FZ as DJ) Different Source 155 minutes EX- 1286,1288,1289

The highlight of this tape is the Outside solo, or whatever it is?? Some of these sound like this one, others are worse, upgrades more than welcome! I only met two collectors who had these, and well i grabbed it all. Never seen anymore or other versions. Though I think i have a few not listed too, different sources, my collection is a mess on a certain level. I bet the Inca is here somewhere. Does Jon have all these mapped out? Any that are not, may contain song. 9-6-79 is a little rare.

I do have the complete WPIX 19-22/11 run, totally ~400 mins, but i can't judge the quality w/o listening to it all...

Well down the road, should be longer than 400 minutes. Well if you took the commercial out. Probably right. i don't want to do that, some collect them, this will go further than just Zappa ciollectors.

Shit Drew, I just ripped this and was planning to seed samples because this is such a huge download. That's why we have this section, to compare and seed the best available version. Thank you.

my version is FM stereo, not too bad sound quality but not complete. I'll put up a sample today from each tape. Bengo can you seed samples of your copy as well?? Anybody else has copies of this?

Cool, yeah sorry, it's fm, and 2 channel, but no way stereo. Sound is pretty good, only real stereo would be better. I would be surprised, pleasantly if it's true stereo. This is only the first night, so not that big a download. My last four were bigger. OK, again, this was more for fun, I'll follow sample process, when I need to. I think Lincoln 72 and 6-15-84 A Zappa Affair are safe not to sample, but will for speed correction.
At least maybe we can get a complete set list for definitive version.

The guy I've gotten so much low-gen stuff from lately taped these. It's about the only material I have yet to request from him, so I should be getting MC's in our next trade. It will probably take several months, though, so I wouldn't want to keep the sampling and posting process here back.

I can wait for MC's a very long time, but I'll prepare samples anyway also to get the tracklist of every day complete. Example: anybody heard of the Mothmen's 7" single Does It Really Matter Irene? played on the 20th?

I never got to hear our man manning the controls of a major-market FM station! Thanks a million times for this!

The honchos at WPIX must have turned several shades of puce when Frank played "Catholic Girls"!
