Frank Zappa
Febuary 28th 1978
Hammersmith Odeon London UK

~~~ fixed ~~~
Same as seeded by drew51 a short while ago, http://www.zappateers.com/bb/viewtopic.php?t=7057 ,
with these minor fixes included:
- MrUMRK fill patches have been speed corrected (Pound for a Brown:-60cts; Yo Mama:-50cts)
and cross-fades re-edited to make the transitions sound a bit "smoother",
samples of these fixes can be checked here: http://www.zappateers.com/bb/viewtopic.php?t=7096 .
- Add.fine tuning [-10cts to 0] of the first part of Yo Mama {0:35-5:42}.
This seed includes the same tracks #01 to #07 as from previous seed (identical flac files = same ffp).
All other tracks (after Pound For a Brown) had to be re-encoded, in order to avoid SBE issues.
See fingerprints note below.
Thanks again to drew 51 for sharing this show with us in the first place.
Tommy Mars - keyboards, vocals
Patrick O'Hearn - bass
Peter Wolf - keyboards
Setlist:
01 intro Purple Lagoon theme
02 Dancin' Fool
03 Peaches En Regalia
04 The Torture Never Stops
05 Tryin' To Grow A Chin
06 City Of Tiny Lights
07 Baby Snakes
11 Broken Hearts Are For Assholes
12 King Kong
13 Wild Love
14 Yo Mama (includes tape flip fill)
15 Disco Boy
Notes:
The taper had levels too high so we have distortion. His equipment
was excellent as was his postion, so we still have a very decent
recording here, despite the distortion. Pitch correction, dropouts and
artifacts removed/repaired. Fills edited in as best i could do,
not perfect.
Credits: Not possible w/o the help of
SS, Flambay, MrUMRK, Pbuzby and Kristoftof.
Thanks for fills, pitch correction advice, samples, and research.
A bit of mystery here. Most FZ giglists had the final two winter '78 shows as Feb 27 and Feb 28, but the current CU giglist has them as Feb 28 and Mar 1.
Any chance the tape of the other London show from the end of the tour is out there somewhere?
Thank you flambay, Mr. UMRK and drew51. Your dedication and work is appreciated by all of us. In a perfect world you all would be hired by Gail to sort out the vault.
Very Happy
Well maybe it is not the last show with Belew and Bozzio, but it is the last known recording as far as i know, and this certainly is a must have. If some are debating should they grab this again? Yes, Flambay's edits are far superior, and I'm going to ask him to do these from now on.
This is one of those shows you play over and over again. I'm doing some requests, and helping out with samples, but I have many gems yet to pull out. Hopefully we will get some of the other big collectors to help out and well, this is only the tip. I have ton's of upgrades to current shows, and will be concentrating on transfers while others master. I will master some, but I want to get these going, lot's of material to go over.
Also I'm going to start keeping pre-edit versions so if Flambay or others wish to revisit, they will have more to work with.
This sounds great!!! Thanks a lot for the effort.
Is it just me or do these older analog recordings have a more pleasant sound than all the newer digital ones?
