These kind of jams are why I like Frank so much. Big jazz fan, his instrumentals and such won me over the first time I heard them.

the text...

Artist: Frank Zappa and The Mothers Of Invention
Venue: Guild Hall, Portsmouth, England
Date: June 5th 1969
Source: sbd or stage
Lineage: sbd>?>low gen MaxellXLII-S (circa 1983)>Gina20>Sound Forge (record/edits)>CDWave>
SHNtool (SBE fix)>FLAC Level 8
Line up: FZ, Roy Estrada, Jimmy Carl Black, Arthur Dyer Tripp III, Ian Underwood, Don Preston,
Bunk Gardner, Motorhead Sherwood, Buzz Gardner.

Set list:
1) Pound For A Brown story 4:19
2) String Quartet with
Transylvania Boogie tease 20:18

Time: 24:37

Notes: Some drop outs, hiss of varying frequencies, some overmodulation.
Thanks to Flambay for speed corrections. Source tape is probably 2nd or 3rd generation.
Special thanks to Tom Brown...."God Damn!"

I have a disagreement with the FZshows setlist. IMHO Transylvania Boogie in not played here. For one Frank does not stop playing on release, guitar through the whole song. The only familiar line from the song I hear is in the last 2 minutes, right after a sax solo (none in TB). Sounds to me that Frank is playing variations off the Transylvania Boogie line. In a direction different from release. I think what we are hearing are the origins of Transylvania Boogie immerging from the Jam in The String Quartet. If you think TB is in there feel free to lay a track mark down and change text. There you go!

Yes, happy new year to all, and thanks man!
I don't exactly conform to the naming standards, I have them how I want them for my archive. I comprimised a little in folder name. I still need FZ in front. I collect about 2500 other artists also, so no name at start of archive would be a mess, this was they sort by artist. I don't care for long file names, and most files conform to etree standards, they were first, and set a great example.

I have not heard Bengo's version, but I'm almost positive this comes from the source of all circulating copies. TB! He has really added to this community and few know it. Can you say rehearsal tapes?
Lot's of other stuff too. Anyway it should be the same or better. At this point with this copy, transfer techniques, mastering etc are going to be the difference. Also of note, the copy was on one of the first issues of high grade tape. Maxell XLII-S not XLII, XLII-S. I have always been anal about stuff like this, ain't you guys lucky? Most of collection is on these higher grade tapes. I tried to trade with people who thought like I did. Ron Covall is one. Also SS in England. Now retired. Both stealth tapers of Frank, like me. This tape was obtained in 1983. I began collecting in 1980. My first Zappa concert was in 1973 at Cobo hall. I would kill for a copy. I was busy with life, but managed to see Frank 11 times though the years. I could have went to 15 or 20 more shows and regret that now bigtime!
