This is meant to replace the old version that I seeded five years ago as since then a very superior rip of the bootleg available only source #3 has been provided by BengoFury, flambay and PittyLabelle. In the process I also fixed SBEs, something which I overlooked to do five years ago: this means that none of the files will match with the previous seed. Also, screw what I said last time: this time I decided to split "Billy The Mountain" in two parts for an easier listening experience as a 52:21" single track is probably too much to handle. Part two starts with the "Studebaker Hoch" section with the solos.

Basically, there are three sources of this: source #1, the one that circulated the most among collectors is the only one that contains all the songs but it's also the one with the poorest sound quality. Source #2 which mostly passed by collectors for years cuts in during the fourth song but has an overall better sound quality and contains different tape flip spots, thus everything lost in source #1 is preserved here and viceversa. Source #3 only includes 40 minutes of the show but it's the one with the better sound quality. This source, as far as we know, has never circulated complete, but was pressed on one of the very first Zappa bootlegs ("In Europe") to be commercialized (approx. 1972) and since then has appeared, often in degraded sound quality, on countless other bootlegs. The old seed used one of these (the erroneously titled "Live in Amsterdam") but for this new one a pristine rip of the original "In Europe" bootleg made by BengoFury and edited by flambay and PittyLabelle replaced those bits. Interestingly, there are other bootlegs released during that period recorded in The Netherlands which have the same characteristics: same very clear but at times distorted sound, edited sequences and full sources that never surfaced in tape trading circuits. A notable example is "The Yes White Album" by Yes recorded at the concert Hall in Amsterdam, 21st January 1972.

All I did was taking the original tape and vinyl rips and edit them together in one long sequence so that every single note The Mothers performed that night in Rotterdam is available in the best possible sound. I also adjusted volumes so they would match as much as possible. No other "remastering" has been done (no eq, nr and the likes) and no further speed correction was necessary. As mentioned, the three sources have cuts in different places, so what's being presented here is a true complete performance.

This is a monster show, the best of the tour and quite possibly one of the best of FZ's concert career. The only thing that devoids this of perfection is the absence of "King Kong" but, as it is, the show is already almost three hours long. The performance is great too, with everyone at the top of his game. Among the higlights: the "Divan" suite with variations in Dutch, a lively "String Quartet", the great singing by Flo & Eddie all over the place and, most importantly, the solo section of "Billy the Mountain" (in which even Dunbar gets to play a drum solo). Frank's solo during that section is esepecially good and it sounds a bit like a prototype of the Winter 1978 "Yo Mama" solos. Oh, and let's not forget about the straightforward cover of "I Wanna Hold Your Hand", the only place in which to find it in decent sound quality. This show is so bubbly and infectious that it's a bit eerie to think that it happened just two weeks before the Montreux and London incidents that killed this line-up. Enjoy!

Thanks to the unknown tapers!
Thanks to Hoosac92 and Robsam for collecting the tapes!
Thanks to Kristoftof and Doctorzap for transferring them!
Thanks to BengoFury, Flambay and Pittylabelle for an excellent presentation of the original "In Europe" vinyl bootleg!

Enjoy !!

Thanks. I remember an interesting "Pound" solo from this tour where FZ keeps getting close to playing the "Grand Wazoo" theme, then finally does play it. I think it was one of the earlier shows but it may have been this one.

What? Another version? Of course I need this, it's a classic. The only drawback is the sound which varies from rather awful to pretty acceptable. But the good news is that the vloerbedekking part is from the best sounding source (I still have that vinyl boot). Epic version of Billy, and Pound is a good version.
