Mains Hum - a common annoyance that can be easily eliminated.

It's this really great-sounding recording:
1982 05 21 Cologne DE 128.09 AUD 1st or 2nd (BengoFury) ZTLS#195 & #719
http://www.zappateers.com/bb/viewtopic.php?t=3812

I listened to a tape of my Arcorman collection for comparison,
if there is the possibility for patches.

My shot is from the same source, but probably a few generations later.
With the exception of the beginning of the concert, which starts a
few seconds earlier in my recording, I could not find any other patch options.

In this comparison, however, I have found something completely different:
There is a humming throughout the recording. It is the well-known mains hum,
which is 50 Hz in Europe. Fortunately, this is just one frequency, since
the Mains Hum often has more harmonics, which then follows in 50 Hz steps:
100 Hz, 150 Hz, 200 Hz and so on.

With iZotope RX, however, this hum can be completely removed - without
damaging the music component in the least.

Please listen to my example.

The screenshot shows very impressively, what is removed here, namely
only the hum component at 50 Hz. For better comparison, I eliminated only
the area from 00:16 to 00:42 mins.

Even more impressive is the audible result - listen for yourself!
Once you've heard it, you never want to hear it again with that deep nasty hum.

I assume that this problem affects very many torrents here.

Spectral view: Example "Zoot Allures"
1982 05 21 Cologne DE 128.09 AUD 1st or 2nd (BengoFury) ZTLS#195 & #719

Very good to hear when the hum starts again at 00:42 mins.

The same 50 Hz hum is on all Cologne tracks of the "As An Am" bootleg album,
which is most likely from the same source.

Even on the official "Beat The Boots" series:

50/60 Hz electrical noise can get into audio systems ...

Yes, but this has nothing to do with "re-mastering" or even "de-noising".
It's just one step of preparing audio files, like speed correction or
phase correction.

Mains hum has nothing to do with the music content, but can affect
audio files in many different ways. For example caused by a defective
microphone cable during recording or a loose cable during a tape
copy process and so on. Even by wrong connected parts of a PA system.

Meanwhile, I've done this with all of my torrents in the past, if necessary.
