"Okay! The set list from the The Falcon. It was a beach theme so I came on stage to the lovely strains of "A Summer Place" while carrying my high school surfboard.
I even dyed my hair BLONDE for the occasion to look like a California surfer but my gray hair was stubborn and hardly anyone noticed the difference. Oh well.
Enjoy the perusal. At the end of this set list post, I'm going to describe the encore. Not for the faint of heart."

"The show was a super fun night of super fun music. Most of it was light and happy (well, as light and happy as Zappa ever gets).
But for the encore, we played a painfully beautiful ballad by Peter Gabriel called "Wallflower". The lyrics are about Nelson Mandela and his imprisonment in South Africa for so many years. As I revisited this song after a lot of years, I realized a lot of the lyrics are VERY relevant to what's happening in this country NOW, what with the family separations at the border.
The Falcon has a huge screen behind the band. My art director, Hugh Brennan has been providing really fun and funny light shows for our recent concerts, but this time, I asked Hugh to come up with some clips of those family separations as a backdrop to "Wallflower". Crying mothers and babies and toddlers being torn away from each other. I wanted the sadness of the visual to match the sadness of the song. A sadness, I might add, that seems to escape the current administration and compliant Congress.
So I told Hugh what I wanted and he made it even better. He started the video with a picture of Peter Gabriel, then quickly went to multiple shots of Nelson Mandela. Eventually as the song proceeded, Hugh put in those pictures of the family separations at the border, replete with a couple shots of the "President" gleefully going about his day.
As we played the last chord of the song, the screen went black with one word splayed across the screen: VOTE
Thanks, Hugh!"

A big thanks goes out to Lee Falco (son of Tony, owner of the club) for doing an excellent job on sound. He's also an amazing drummer currently working with Doyle Bramhall II and was recently on tour with Donald Fagen (of Steely Dan) & The Nightflyers.
