As per Mark Farner... FZ chatter begins at the 9:30 mark, he mentions it a couple of minutes later. Can anyone confirm this ?? I was a bit surprised...

I'm skeptical, considering his opinion of the people up in the Canyon shooting off their automatic weapons on New Year's, and his comment in one interview about how "I don't join shit."

I somewhere read that he was indeed a member of NRA.
I also remember reading that he owned guns.

A cursory google search isn't bringing up any other mention of Zappa being an NRA member, just the Farner video. It did however, bring up a number of links pointing to the NRA's "enemies list" which includes all the living Zappas (and Gail, who was alive at the time). See, for example, https://www.vacps.org/nra-anti-gun-supporters Of course, that might mean nothing, obviously.

Don't forget the unflattering reference to the NRA in "Jesus Thinks You're A Jerk."

".... life time member of the NRA" (does the "A" stand for assholes?)
That quote belongs to Mark Farner only: http://afka.net/images/Magazines/1976/1976-09-xx%20Creem%20v8n4%2002.jpg

Recall gunfire at the close of Civ3. I remember an FZ quote saying something like:
I recorded that in my backyard, all the [idiot] yahoos popping off their weapons on New Years Eve.

For what it's worth.

I see Frank as a guy using more the word (and the music obviously) than the sword.

I don't know whether he might have been a NRA fan or not, but to me he belonged to another league.

In fact, he also used to be the kind of guy who didn't need to scream to add weight to his speeches (while this seems to have become a fashion among people now, especially politicians and trend-mongers of various nature and extraction).

Consulting THE BIG NOTE, seems to have been recorded in Bob Stone's backyard. I was questioning the Laurel Canyon
location in my head. Wonder where BS lived? Maybe a bit more rural Greater LA?

On alt.fan.frank-zappa in 1999, Bob Stone wrote:
The gunshot recordings were made by me in the back yard of the house where I lived at the time in Sun Valley. Frank used the segment with my permission.

With lyrics like, "convinced they are the chosen ones / and all their parents carry guns / and hold them cards in the N.R.A.," I'm guessing he was neither a member of the NRA nor a big fan.
