First, some background...

These arrangements were commissioned from me by my friend and fellow countryman Rubens Lopes, then enrolled at the Paris Conservatory, especially for this recording session. He produced the whole thing - recruited all the performers, booked time at the studio, filed requests for instruments and equipment and so forth; he also chose all the pieces, except for "Cucamonga", which I decided would work well as a coda to "Pound for a Brown". I wrote all these arrangements (along with "Son of Mr. Green Genes", of which two takes were made, both of which we found improper for consumption) in roughly one month; they did two overnight rehearsals and one overnight recording session, plus one or two short overdub sessions (mostly vocal parts), and this was the result. Given time restrictions, I basically followed the original arrangements that everyone was already familiar with. I did take a considerable amount of liberties, though, or I would have to call them "transcriptions".

Without further ado, here is a basic rundown:

"Peaches En Regalia": An adaptation of the original arrangement, with a couple of instrumentation tricks here and there to spice things up a bit... and an easter egg. Which you'll have no problem finding, since it's not hidden at all.

"Dancin' Fool": An adaptation of the Sheik Yerbouti arrangement, with the tedious disco beat replaced by an array of traditional Brazilian rhythms - maracatu, baião, samba - masterfully performed by Rubens. In addition, a (quite appropriately) terribly wrong lead sheet of the song that he found somewhere on the web provided the basic material for my baião-styled coda.

"Keep It Greasey": One that we felt was worth including, despite never having been properly mixed, basically because it's a fucking impressive performance. Unaware that the Joe's Garage version was actually the result of complex xenochronous procedures, and never meant to be performed live, Rubens wrote an intricate arrangement for two drummers that minutiously replicated its rhythmic structure. Upon finishing it, he started having second thoughts about whether it would be even exequible for the rest of the band. It was my challenge to make it so. Some of you will object to the changes I made to the lyrics. Well, I made them especially for you.

"Pound for a Brown": Now THAT was fun. A crazy patchwork that freely incorporates my favorite elements from each of the arrangements made by FZ throughout his career. Having been told that some of the guys in the band were into that kind of action, I also had to include a free improv section. And how do you end an extended FZ jam after a kickass drum solo? Why, "Cucamonga", of course.

Below is the description in the original, unaltered info file which accompanies these tracks.

[EDIT: Sorry I forgot to include the lineage briques - It's pretty simple: Studio master > iZotope Ozone 5 Dither > Downsampling and bit-depth conversion > TLH flac level 8]
