...so, who digs through all the 1980 shows with Logeman to identify this solo? Very Happy

Interesting. Pretty hot solo and offhand I can't identify the date. My guess is it is from the European 1980 tour. Sounds like FZ added some effects to his guitar track when he mixed it.

This solo is indeed a mother fucker!!

Love the sound of those 8 track recordings too. Nice and raw.

Also sounds like the US 1980 fall tour. He was drowning in flange around then. Soup 'N' Old Clothes was Santa Monica 12/11/80.

It definitely reminds of that track, yes. But these drums don't sound like Vinnie at all, more like Logeman.

To me it's the early 1980 guitar sound rather than the late 1980..... I thought it may be the Brussels show at 1st but I've checked and it's not...

Very cool. Excuse my oblivion, but has he posted any other nuggets publicly (i.e. non-exclusive to backers)?

He has shared short a lot of video clips in several update emails. This is so far the only audio clip.

All the clips - including this one - are exclusive to backers.
None have been made public, except where someone posts a direct link like here.
The video clips are on the project youtube channel in "unlisted" mode, so not searchable, but some links from the backer emails have been reposted.

this reminds me the Rotterdam show 1980 (although I don't have it on my hard disk to be sure...) (this sounds like a nasty solo of the Illinois Enema Bandit and a great SBD... I wonder if on your audio excerpt Zappa goes into "Soup 'N' Old Clothes" later (like he did for the Halloween 1981 show (same kind of flanger effect on the guitar) (I love the "Soup 'N' Old Clothes" part when he used to do it...)
