Wow... even Ahmet's own Twitter post about this farse is taking a beating.

I bet he tells Eddie Trunk "don't take any phone calls" during their interview today.

The sparks will fly - even if Ahmet takes one call... A lot of bad feelings on the street. Instead of wasting all of the money on developing holograms, think of the audio that could be liberated from the Vault...

ONE MORE TIME FOR THE WORLD!!!!

Well.... the Trunk Nation show is over and I could not get thru the entire time. Fat boy only took 3 very short calls at the end of the show anyway. The blow hard strikes again because he doesn't shut the fuck up. Ahmet and Jeff only had about 40mins in the hour including the commercials.

The only redeeming quality of the interview was that he revealed that the material that they will be using is from unseen/unheard video/audio that was recorded on a sound stage during what he called the peek of Frank's career. He would not elaborate.

"Frank Zappa tried to get Hologram stage props so we could afford to do the "Thingfish" Broadway play when we were doing that album. We had a few meetings with Dr Toshitada Doi who invented the PCM (Pulse Code Modulation) that was used to form Compact Disc (CD's) and the PCM 3324 digital multitrack machines that Frank and I used on many of his records. The idea was to use the 3/4 inch videotape (much like the Sony 1630 PCM machine we mastered with) to store the data that would project the stage props to avoid having to spend a huge amount of money and to be able to make a more elaborate form of decorations for the ThingFish play. We originally planned on using 8 tracks of information and Dr Doi had a basic design format layed out. Unfortunately the digital transformation was a bit too demanding for the speed of many of the processors that were available back then (around 1983). Many of the new processors now could easily handle the tasks. So, we had to scrub the project."

Interesting. Also in the same vein IIRC civilization phase III has detailed staging instructions using prerecorded digital code?

None of this ''would FZ approve of, or use, holograms himself'' stuff is relevant..... blimey! he sang about Plastic People as well but it didn't mean he wanted to become one.....

It's interesting how polarising this project is. 🙏

I agree it's interesting..... I'm not one of the people who think it's ''creepy'' but I just think that live music should be just that, live!
Is The World really so bereft of talent in 2017 that we need to resurrect dead people to entertain us? (especially when the resurrected dead person can't do any of the things we liked best about him? ie: improvise/compose/interact etc. etc.)
It's an ''L.A. bubble'' idea if ever I've heard one....

Yeah. And the comment section of that twitter post jaypfunk posted above suggests, that polarisation basically happens between the ZFT and the huge majority of fans of Frank Zappa's music. Hardly any positive reactions there.

Has anybody insight about the financial side of all this? Wasn't there a crowdfunding-something to save the vault? How is that money seperated from the financial backing of this hologram stuff?
