I am probably entering a minefield with this question, but am I the only one who can't stand certain FZ-tunes?

His catalogue is so extensive that it's impossible to like everything. Some of the 80s stuff gets on my nerves, especially on "Thing Fish".

cheers

3. I wouldn't have asked if I weren't interested. Are you telling me, I shouldn't have posted that question, Mr Ron?

Intersting, I like "Thing Fish" for its commentary. But I agree with what you're saying. My worst FZ-moment is probably "Stevie's Spanking" and "Sex" and "Valley Girl" and a lot of 80's post YAWYI stuff up until "FZMTMOP".

Not among my favorite FZ songs but I don't mind these three. "No Not Now" and its backwards counterpart, on the other hand...

cheers

Pointless thread.
Surely we can discuss more interesting aspects of Zappa's music?

Personally, as long as the discussion remains civil, I don't think this thread is pointless.

In fact, if you like something I don't, you can always try to explain me what you hear on it and I may try to revaluate it a little. It doesn't work most of the times but sometimes it does.

cheers

Agreed. Aside from the (as of recent, more) occasional new release, we have to talk about something. And given that there's no way everybody likes every FZ song equally, why can't this be fodder for a topic? I think it's actually more interesting than the converse -"What's your favorite FZ song?"

"SEX" is close to the bottom for me. "Stevie's Spanking" seems to go on too long. And although I can appreciate some of the vocal arranging and how it must've hit a nostalgic spot for FZ, I don't really care for any of the "pure" doo-wop-py stuff like "Luigi And The Wise Guys".

I agree: in the absence of new release speculation - this is actually the kind of topic I find fascinating! As it is, several songs I quite like have been mentioned!

I quite like the original version of SEX - but think the remix reinstates a bunch of terrible verses that are really below par Zappa.

I Don't Even Care leaves me bored - as does the whole of Thing Fish, and most of SATLTSADW.

2. With all albums on shuffle during a long drive, I do press skip on occasion, most often tracks with vocals. It doesn't mean I can't stand any of them, just that it's not right for me for that moment.
3. Mr Ron? It was a straightforward question. A simple search shows it has already been asked several times before, the most recent ending less than 6 months ago, so why a new one?

So everyone who contributed to anything before a newbie joined should repost rather than a newie wonder if by chance their question had already been asked over the last ten years Rolling Eyes
That is not the way BB/forums work (except addictedtoaussiesoaps.us)
Part of moderating a forum is to try and prevent multiple starts of the same or similar topic.
To be fair, many forums carry a headline banner asking new users to search before asking, but we like to credit our members with some nous.

Anyway, it is much more interesting to bump the previous topic if relevant. As Galeans said above, we can reevaluate our previous thoughts and see if what we wrote before still stands.
