This was Captain Beefheart's most killer show that we all, to this day, remember so well.
I'm so happy that all of you can enjoy this. I've had the master since day one.
The date is 1/29/81. Wolf & Rissmiller's Country Club, Reseda, CA
The whole concert.

welcome back to "the fresh archives" who turn 30 today, how millenial...
these are a series of recordings made over several years by a small circle of tapers.
some of these are actually from the original masters, a few are from copies of masters.
some of these shows have circulated widely before in traded tape copies of several generations,
and will be upgrades, some have not circulated much if at all.
a few are from FM radio broadcasts, also several audience recordings.
this one may have circulated here before, since it has a setlist and date listed in etree
but the date and set don't quite match up with this tape.
that's nothing new. alot of the setlists and dates listed in etree are wrong
it's quite annoying, but I can't let that keep me from sharing something that may be from a master sbd tape.
hopefully one of his many fan experts will straighten this date and setlist mess out soon
I don't know if Fresh recorded this one, but he may have.
likely, since we're going back to the W and R Country Club for this show
and Fresh did record some of those shows from the board, and this is a sbd recording.
it can be hard to remember these kinds of details from over 30 years ago.
I suspect this is from the actual master tape. it sounds like one.

thanks much to "pennymymom" (a/k/a Fresh) for recording several of these
(probably including this one),
and sharing them with me so I can share them with the world.
this was apparently a full length show.
there is a fairly wide variety of bands involved here, not just one or two.
something for just about every taste from classic rock to modern 80's new wave.
there will be some 70's stuff involved too, but the 1st 2 batches are mostly from the 80's.
this should be the best batch yet, and there are a couple more gems in it yet to come.
some of the Fresh Archives may be shared by others, and some have been previously too,
but at least several more will be presented by yours truly, including another batch starting in the next week or two
and I have continued to plan on doing more of these as time (and technology) allows for both of us.

* contrast clause * contrast clause * contrast clause *
this show has been previously posted from a Flying M 1st gen. reel copy of this recording, at:
http://www.dimeadozen.org/torrents-details.php?id=311749
and also from a remastering of that same transfer at:
http://www.dimeadozen.org/torrents-details.php?id=485482

I am told this comes from the original cassette that both of those copies come from.
hopefully Mike will be able to verify that in a sound comparison.
this transfer was done in either dec. of 2016, or january of 2017.

Don Van Vliet (Captain Beefheart): vocals, tenor saxophone, soprano saxophone, Chinese gongs

According to another different 1st Gen torrent by Mike Martin (Flying M Productions),
this should be the correct lineage for this master clone:

Mono soundboard recorded on a Nakamichi Dragon Cassette Deck >
TDK-SA 90 min. master cassette >
played on tascam 112 into soundforge (wav) >
flac (sb's aligned) > torrentially yours
