This show was already on the tracker, but was not presented in the best way. This is an historical show with a very special setlist and, although in the end Frank only used part of his recording of this show on "Burnt Weeny Sandwich" and "YCDTOSA #5", he planned to use more sections, as "Finer Moments" and the "Weasel Music" acetate attest. We have a complete audience tape and a soundboard of the first set but, unfortunately, none of the two are stellar sounding. The SBD is mostly mono and sounds decent for audience recording but not great as a board, while the AUD is marred by low volume and loads of hiss which render most of the tape muffled, although the louder parts sound okay and it gets better near the end. Before this seed, we had a probably unbeatable version of the SBD on the tracker seeded by Yojimbo in 2006 and an upgradeable and off-speed version of the audience tape seeded by Walk a year before. This seed here combines the SBD with a new version of the AUD coming from Yojimbo's collection: the tape is still not of great quality and has a good deal of hiss, but it's slightly better than what we had before and has a known lineage. A full version of the audience tape, for the fetishists and the other perverts, will be made available in a few days. I took the liberty to re-track a bit the material from the original SBD seed but, if you want to start from more than 0%, from "Big Leg Emma" to "Interlude" they are exactly the same as the old seed, although you will have to rename them as indicated on the fingerprints (edit: this is no more the case for "A Pound for a Brown", check the messagge indicated above). The "Chamber Music Piece" contains one of the two compositions present on the "Weasel Music" acetate, but it's not the same recording. Also, I decided against labelling such composition as "Hot Rats" since on track #10 Frank seems to introduce such composition after "the birth of Frankenstein", so it would seem that it's possibly a working title of "Little House I Used to Live In" or something similar. Note that "The Walking Zombie Music" as it appears on "Finer Moments" is not the actual free form music coming after "Mozart Ballet", but rather the improvisation after "Some Ballet Music", involving Don Preston playing with the radio signals.

So, what to say about this concert? This is, undoubtedly, one of the best shows of the Mothers of Invention era with a great setlist and lots of things happening, including the "formidable Noel Redding" guesting on dance routines (although, obviously, you will not be able to see them). The first part of the second set is especially noteworthy since it features material unavailable anywhere else. The improvisational material is amazing, including some great solos here and there, various conducted spontaneous compositions and a surprisingly straightforward jam version of "Louie Louie". It's also a blast to be able to hear the unedited "uniform incident" as immortalized on "Burnt Weeny Sandwich": Frank left off the very ending! Oh, and let's not forget about "Brown Shoes Don't Make It", seldom played by The Mothers live and one of the two only versions available from the 60s band.

Credits:

I think Hot Rats was the original title of Low Budget. Note that it also appears alongside King Kong on JLP's 69/10/06 session sheet.

Thanks to all involved. This is a great. I Frankensteined my own SBD/AUD version together but I'm sure this going to be way better. MOI is my favorite.
