This tape has appeared on the tracker numerous times but this version should be the definitive one, once for all. For a while the most commonly circulating version of this was 43 minutes long and decent sounding, until 2009 when Musigny23 shared a much superior version with a lot more clarity and balance between channels sourced from a much lower (albeit still unknown) generation reel. In the process it was also discovered that the first 20 minutes of the tape as it was previously presented didn't belong to this show at all but rather from a 1969 show, possibly 08 08. His version blew away all the others but, unfortunately, introduced a new tape cut that was not present in the old copies, specifically during FZ's "King Kong" solo. This has now been patched with the older seed. Note that none of the other files will match because I fixed the SBEs between each track.

For those of you who still haven't heard this show, grab this immediately as it's one of the finest sounding tapes of the early MOI, in very clear stereo, no less. It is also a very good performance with some clowning around and a tremendous version of "King Kong". Material with Ray Collins in this sound quality is not something you hear often… we need more of this stuff!

Please note that the date and location given may be wrong: according to some sources Billy Mundi was still in the band in December 1967 but on the recording Art Tripp is clearly performing. Just listen to the way the "King Kong" groove is played. If this is not 1967 12 03 Ann Arbor, we have no way of knowing of what it consists of, so the credentials of the tape have been left as they are… just take them with a grain of salt. This is thought to be a Don Preston stage recording but, again, no confirmation.

Credits:

I don't know exactly when Billy Mundi left, but Art Tripp's first gig was at Colgate University in Hamilton, New York, on February 24, 1968.

And Ray Collins quit in Chicago sometime between August 14 and 17, 1968. So that's the latest this could be from.

I think Billy performed his last gig with The Mothers at the Trauma (Philly) Dec. 26-31, 1967.: http://members.shaw.ca/fz-pomd/giglist/1967.html after talking in NY with Jac Holzman ( Elektra Records) and then flew to LA to rehearse & join Rhinoceros.
If Art Tripp is clearly in this recording, then is from 1968.

Many thanks Exclamation
