Here's some samples for a great show left languishing on the Shoebox for too long. It's the first circulating tape of the first American tour of 1974. It is quite pleasant sounding but there are various channel fluctuations. So far, this has appeared in three versions: a BengoFury version (125:33), a JimShoes one (118:01) and, later, a Musigny23 (121:14) one, in the shoebox. The JimShoes one has been noise reducted and was eventually pulled off the tracker. The Musigny23 one is the only one with a known lineage and generation and it's, in my opinion, the one who sounds better. The BengoFury one is not too worse but it's edited (one of the cuts has been smoothed) and does not have a known lineage.
Both copies have exactly the same cuts and the same channel problems. I think these can be sorted out with some time and patience, and I'm willing to invest both. I prepared samples of the beninning and the end of the recording, the cuts and a couple of channel fluctuations, as an example of what goes on. I'm definitely more inclined towards the Musigny23 one.
Note that the two copies run at different speeds. Any comment on speed values?

11 Pygmy Twylyte
12 The Idiot Bastard Son (That Arrogant Dick Nixon)
13 Cheepnis
14 Approximate
-samples, cut during applause, edited in BengoFury copy
15 Inca Roads

Lineage (BengoFury): Aud>low gen tape>CDR>wav (CEP, resplitted)>flac (Frontend with SBE correction)
Lineage (musigny23): MC (Gear unknown other than Sony portable cassette deck) > Reel > Reel > DAT > Apple (aiff) > Xact (flac, ffp)

Sound is similar. Flambay will presumably have a more precise answer but I think the Bengo copy is at correct speed, the musigny23 a bit fast.

I agree that the musigny23 has the most potential, nothing different at TDK to offer. Looking forward to your results.

I made a (full 2:01:19, untracked) version (for my own listening pleasure) of musigny23's 'raw' fine sounding source, that he kindly shared in the shoebox, utilizing a sliding time scale/pitch shift by -0.140% in Audacity and it sounds real good if I do say so myself...
it also seems to minimize/eradicate the "channel fluctuations" mentioned by the variable pitch shift.
if there is any interest I could upload some samples(?) _________________ "Play it, you know, John Bonham-mongoloid way." -- FZ, 1977 12 29 (R) Los Angeles CA

I don't see any reason you shouldn't upload some samples. Let's check them out!

Agree. I think we should go on with Musigny23 version.
I'd love to prepare this and Montreal 1980, since the samples didn't bring up upgrades.
