1988 02 14 Upper Darby PA

More AUD Source #1 Samples (Den Simms-blackpage) vs. (D.S.-robsam-doctorzap)
and possible fills from Source #2,#3,#4

As a follow-up
to mudsharknyc's sample post from nearly 5 years ago around these two Source #1 versions
and to help move forward the decision process around a new FZ Shows upload project
regarding this excellent AUD Source #1 of this 1988 Valentine's Day show

I'm putting up here again
a couple of samples from these two Source #1 copies (blackpage and robsam - both 1st gen)
(speed corrected, phase offset adjusted)

taken from around these two tape flip cut spots:

- City Of Tiny Lites FZ solo
and
- King Kong fragment

Also included:
samples from all known alternate sources
to help determine which version is the best match with either Source #1 copy
to use for patching up the tf cuts:

Source #2: Zombiwoof Master
http://www.zappateers.com/bb/viewtopic.php?t=12484

Source #3: fzmoi69-doctorzap AUD MC (Mono)
http://www.zappateers.com/bb/viewtopic.php?t=21296

Source #4: Eric-fastfatty AUD MC (partial transfer, 2nd set only - only a King Kong fill available from this source)
http://www.zappateers.com/bb/viewtopic.php?t=13330

In the previous samples set discussion thread
most have already expressed their preference for the blackpage copy.

Question:
Which source should we include the fills from ?

Thanks for checking these samples and for speaking up.

This one is really tough. The blackpage seems to have a bigger soundstage and more clarity, but it also has more hiss. The robsam sounds reserved in comparison but has less hiss and more material at the tape flips. I would easily choose the RobSam if I was doing a remaster, but at face value and for the tracker, the blackpage might sound a little bit better to most people. I don't know, because I often disagree with folks who prefer a bright treble (perceived as clarity) to a duller recording that is much lower generation (see: Brest '79)

Thanks to JWB here and to all others in the other samples thread for your feedback.

It's a tough decision to take indeed.

Despite the hiss I think too that we should go with the blackpage version
as a basis for a new Source #1 version seed in FZ Shows,
including material from the robsam copy (same source) missing in the blackpage copy;

plus alternate source fills:

from Source #2 (Zombiwoof) for the tf cut in City Of Tiny Lites
and
from Source #4 (Eric-Fastfatty) for the tf cut in King Kong
(closer sonic match with the blackpage source than the Source #2/Zombiwoof fill)

to make that Source #1 upload complete.
