Frank Zappa

18-May 1988
Le Zenith,
Montpellier, France

Samples from 3 versions, same AUD source

Current FZ Shows version
1988 05 18 Montpellier 112:58 AUD (WIU2B) ZTLS #217 seeded in 2006
needs to be revisited
(speed correction, phase offset adjustments)

and before going ahead with this we might as well compare it against
two more recently surfaced copies of the same source first:

1) robsam-doctorzap 1st or 2nd gen seeded here in the Shoebox (two threads, no torrent file):

2) Bob M-doctorzap 1st gen - not seeded yet

Samples seeded here (from each version):

s01 The Black Page (start side 1, start of show)
s02 Lumpy Gravy (end side 1) - end first set, intermission
s03 Stick Together (start side 2) - cuts in, start missing
s04 Stairway to Heaven (end side 2) - cuts off, end missing
s05 Bolero (start side 3) - encore start, no music missing
s06 Bamboozled By Love (end side 3, end of show)

All versions having the same cuts, same amount of material missing.

Any alternate source version available (fills) ?
Thanks for letting us know.

IMO the Bob M-doctorzap 1st gen is the best sounding version of the three
and should be our pick for a new FZ Shows project around this show,
the other two sounding more "swooshy" around the highs.

Any opinions ?
Thanks for speaking up.

Same 3 versions (2 rs-dz and wiu2b) at TDK so nothing to offer. The 1st gen bm-dz seems like a logical choice even if we haven't obtained that one so far.

I totally agree.
BobM version is the clearest sounding imho
I also agree on the swooshy-factor flambay mentioned
less muffled sounding in the lows (listen to the kick drum beginning of Stick together)

thanks BobM and doctorzap for yet another great contribution
