A very good audience tape from the Italian leg, first shared by our own Marcomat in this very own tracker way back in 2005. Here's what he wrote:

I received these 2 cds in a trade. The concert was recorded by Barzio, a friend of the person who made the CDs. He couldn't tell me which tape recorder or mic were used - only that he was sitting in a good, central position in Palasport. The CDs were ripped from the master tapes after some minor equalization.
I ripped the CDs with EAC and made some minor retracking: unified the first 3 tracks (Crowd + Black Page + Band intro) in only 1 track; cut the long fade-out in City Of Tiny Lites at the end of CD1 and the long fade-in in You Are What You Is at the beginning of CD2, unified the two tracks and re-tracked them.
While I know for sure that the sound change in Walrus was due to a mic problem, Alessandro couldn't remember the reason for this increase in the volume. Apart for the slight pitch correction suggested by Flambay, I decided to leave the recording as I have received it.

Flambay checked again the speed and found out it runs ok, so I didn't have to speed correct anything. However, other than patching a missing section on "City of Tiny Lights" (it is still incomplete, though, and the very beginning of "The Black Page" is missing as well. Those parts were missing on the other source as well), I decided to split the audience noise from "Bolero" and to fix SBEs with "Trader's Little Helper". It is better than before, but it seems that microseconds are missing, so tracks still make a very small "tick" noise when the index point changes. However, I must say this is not really noticeable and most of the times it is rended unnoticeable by the audience noises and clapping. Also, the encore part was transferred with a higher volume, so it's quite hot. I think it sounds quite good, but if you don't like it, you can find the whole encores from the alternate source in the bonus folder (same files, just renamed them adding "(source 2)" at the end of each title, as you can see on the fingerprints files). Don't let this discorage you: this tape sounds fantastic and in stereo, and, personally, I think it's a much better recording than the other.

Not that the other does not have its charms: in the fill I patched on "City of Tiny Lights" you can hear the tapers (a man and a woman) checking the tape because the woman thinks it is not working anymore ("it's running out!" "no, it's not" "yes it is, look"), and after "The Illinois Enema Bandit" you can hear the man saying "he's so great, too much, too much, too much, I can't take it anymore, take me to the asylum, aaargh!". Jon Naurin in his review called this a "pretty forgettable show", but, obviously, those who attended it beg to differ. I do think as well it's quite too harsh and that this is a very enjoyable show, with some good solos by FZ. The "you are there"-like sound quality of the tape may help. I also chuckle at the "turn off the lights" secret words (apparently, the lights on the stadium were on until "Montana", where you can clearly hear when they finally get turned off. Frank doesn't seem in a bad mood, as he tries to speak in Udinese dialect and fills the show with "Guido the popcorn seller" references. This is the best sounding audience tape of the Italian leg (with the possible exception of Padova, which at times sounds like a SBD), so get it!!

The discrepancies in the total time between the two "Enema Bandit" files are there because the amount of crowd noise after the song is different.

Thanks to Barzio for taping the original show!
Thanks to Alessandro for transferring it!
Thanks to Marcomat for sharing it with us!
Thanks to Yojimbo for the second source!
Thanks to Flambay for everything he did, including (but not limiting to) taking care of source #2 and checking the speed!

Enjoy !!

As I remember it (and it is all a bit hazy now) this was a very strange show, with Frank often sitting cross-legged on top of one of his speaker cabinets, soloing more than usual. The problems in the band were at their peak and he was pretty pissed off with them.
Anyhow, still looking forward to hearing ".... the best sounding audience tape of the Italian leg (with the possible exception of Padova". Thanks to all involved.
