Hi everybody, thanks to the admins for the new server.

I just wanted to know if this was a good read? I know it's pretty hard to find, is there any pdf lurking somewhere? I thought it was "just" a booklet at first, but it seems it's more hefty than that. Is this a really detailled overview of Frank's work and concepts thereof?

Yes.

The book was reprinted a few years ago.

352 pages!

Not at all. It's a bunch of screenplays (Hunchentoot, Dwell, Billy The Mountain, Thing-Fish, Francesco, etc.) worked into one extra-long screenplay.

See the Them Or Us page at afka.net (and links therein) for further information.

I should say it's much more than just that... but hey, why not just read the damn thing and find out for yourself...

Yes - definitely!!

I remember Zappa's publicity leaflets at Barking Pumpkin Records saying something like "Answers all the questions about Conceptual Continuity and is not a boring rock biography! Yours to rumple & fetish..."

I got one of the original books many moons ago - thick volume of pages all printed in the Dot Matrix fomat! Mmmmmmmm.......

Wow. Now I want to read it. It'll have to wait until after Christmas, though. Damn bills.

I wrote an article about it in the T'Mershi Duween fanzine (Issue No 60) in the late '90s which might be of interest if you can find a copy.

Zappa really went to town putting all his characters into one big story - and there are some funny moments too, as you'd expect!

I think if they made a film of it, you'd probably need someone like David Lynch to direct it!!

I'd be interested in that myself...

Of course, Frank actually asked Terry Gilliam.

Nice find, BengoFury!!

Been a loooong time since I've read that - I hope my writing has improved since then! Razz
T'Mershi Duween was my only real connection to the Zappa world back before the Wibbly Wobbly Way became the thing it has.

I still have (and treasure) all my copies of T'Mershi Duween and have them safely stored away!!

Yes, Terry Gilliam would have been a good choice too - and I'd even bring in Tarantino to direct the fight scenes between the Real Jesus and Old Zircon at Madison Square Gardens!!

Yes, that would have been far more appropriate... I love Lynch's work, but he just doesn't have the right sense of humor.

Lynch loves Beefheart and especially Trout Mask Replica. Legendary question from David Lynch in Anton Corbijn's short documentary: "Zappa?" Equally legendary answer from Don: "I only knew one Frank Zappa." I think there's a possibility Lynch is crazy enough to go for Them or Us if someone offers an insane amount of money for the production. And it could turn out great, like a bloated comic book Inland Empire - and possibly the worst Box Office disaster in the history of cinema Very Happy
