I was asked to post my version of this show for comparison
so here it is.

Mr. Pucks > MP4s captured using Hidownload >
audio files demuxed using TMPGenc Video Mastering Works 5 >
editing, patching, convert to wav 48 KHz using Sony Vegas 12 >
resample to 44.1 KHz using iZotope Rx Advanced.

I used the audience source available here for patching.

I split this into two files to fit on 2 CDs. There are no track
markers yet.

Using TMPenc to demux probably did the job, but mp4's aren't muxed because the video and audio is separate - Essentially, you should just save the audio as an ac3 stream and transcode once to WAV.
It's a double transcode if the original mp4's were at 44kHz ... A lot of mp4's are converted from DVD formats so have ac3 audio at 48kHz so strictly speaking an ac3 to WAV is a transcode, though not a resampling.

Anyway, only Greg can clear up the question for you. Smile

First I think doctorzap has more explaining to do than I do.
Fake stereo? Compression? Then he puts down my audio for
sounding bad and having double encoding.
First of all the MP4s don't have an AC3 stream, they have
audio as an .aac file which is MP2 and at 48 KHz in this case.
I didn't need to demux but I did and it just separates the
audio and video, it doesn't do any processing.
Anyone converting this to wav had to resample to 44.1 KHz
so it could be CD compatible.
Quite frankly, doctorzap's listed lineage is pretty vague.
An H4N is a handheld portable digital recorder.
It looks like he used a digital recording off of his soundcard
made with a Zoom H4N. Recorded at 24/96 and then dithered
and downsampled (two separate processes)
First the soundcard converts the digital audio to analog
introducing a small amount of noise and distortion to
the signal. Then the digital recorder records the analog
audio and converts to digital. This is an incredibly inefficient
way to grab music when you can just capture the original
digital files.

I originally made this as a personal use only project but was
asked to put it up for comparison to doctorzap's version.

Indeed thumbsup but don't take it personally, he's just in need of some attention... healthiest attitude is probably to just laugh about it Laughing (besides, I don't think he has the required knowledge to do the explaining you're expecting from him...)

Now that's funny! If anyone would know bad-sounding shows it would be doctorzap since he 'created' tons of them under many aliases throughout the years. Of course he'll gladly take all credit for the quality shows of others as he truly believes he's the king of all Zappa. Pathetic.

Does this version use the audio stream you extracted the other day? Because that sounded much, much better than the crap version doctorzap posted.

Thanks, this sounds so much better than Ninja's remaster-disaster!

Yes, it uses the same audio stream. This time I patched the missing parts with the audience source and converted
to WAV instead of MP3.
