This is the very first time I ever played "Watermelon In Easter Hay." It was very challenging to play on many levels. It has always been a highly emotional song for me. Matching my father's phrasing is very difficult as well.

With Dweezil finally playing WIEH and the staging of 200 Motels at the Royal Festival Hall, the Eons are closing. This is the Year of Zappa indeed.

That's sad stuff. I hope he doesn't do it again.

In the sense that he should only do it occasionally so that it remains a unique and special moment, I agree.

Nothing wrong with that as long as he doesn't play it too often. Is there a problem? Laughing

He played it tonight in London.
I don't think he will be able to do it to often. We could all see it was emotionally tough on him, probably even more so as his phrasing was exactly as Frank played it. Dweezil fought back the tears, but I couldn't.
I do hope it remains that special, tonights performance outshone all 20 ZPZ performances I've seen to date.

Have to agree with TPS, tonight in London was the best ZPZ I've seen!

Thanks for posting the link ichbinmaroon, I would have likely missed that.

I think it's terrific. I may be reading too much into it, but it looks and sounds to me that it reveals Dweezil's intimate connection to his father's song and in turn his father's relation to it. In that regard the performance transcends my full understanding and leaves me in the position of just enjoying the music. I don't see anything manipulative there or in his posting it, but I've been fooled before.

I'm not the greatest Dweezil fan (although I certainly respect him), but I was touched by this.

cheers to him
