Frank Zappa & The Mothers of Invention
Orpheum Theater
Boston, MA
November 09, 1974
Late show
~~ Combined seed of two alternate audience sources (1st & 2nd gen) courtesy of BobM, patched with RobSam 2nd gen SBD ~~
After presenting upgrades to both the audience & SBD tapes of this show earlier this year, it was brought to light that a mistake was made where I forgot to correct the phase issues with the SBD tape. While re-visiting these corrections for the planned re-seed, we also decided to properly correct the audience sources (since we used the SBD for fills there) which included multiple phase and volume adjustments on top of the usual speed corrections.
In true Zappateers style and luck, while working on these shows again, another set of tapes arrived courtesy of BobM and once again kindly transferred by Doctorzap.
One tape was another copy of the recent Waterbury segment which was followed by what appeared to be this Boston late show. Indeed it was. And it turned out to be another copy of the previously seeded RobSam AUD segment. If you recall from that earlier seed, the RobSam tape contained audience material not found in the commonly circulated source, most interestingly The Idiot Bastard Son which was not present in either audience or SBD sources previously.
This newly transferred BobM copy also had The Idiot Bastard Son, but this time complete, with the tape cutting in during the closing segment of what was likely Room Service (sadly still missing). Further good news was this copy had a nearly complete Dupree's Paradise where the previous copy cut about 5 minutes in which lessened the amount of SBD fill needed this time. It also plays complete to the end after the cut including the encores. Listening to this segment and comparing it to the encores from the more commonly circulating 64 minute source now confirms that this is indeed a second source!
Source 1: Commonly circulated tape, 64 min, BobM 2nd gen
Source 2: 77 min, BobM 1st gen
Presented here is the most complete audience copy of this late show seen to date. The first portion (through Pygmy Twylyte) is from source 1 switching to source 2 for The Idiot Bastard Son to the end of the show (patching in the SBD source where necessary). Some may notice that the time is a little shorter than the previous seed. This is due to the encore audience break being a little shorter than in Source 1, and a one second repeated section during the preamble to Florentine Pogen missed in the earlier seed.
I have included the alternate source 1 tracks portion (Marty's Dance Song through encores) in a separate subfolder including a SBD patched version of Marty's Dance for those who want it all. Of course, all unpatched tracks are included. Due to the additional corrections made to the Source 1 tracks, I am sorry to say you will have to download them again but it is an upgrade.
I hope you will all be pleased with the results. Despite the countless hours I've spent with this one, I haven't grown tired of it since it is an awesome show. One of my brothers was there and although he doesn't remember many specifics now, he still has fond memories of seeing Zappa over the years in general. And yes, the SBD upgrade will follow shortly.

| Does that mean we'll get SBD version with AUD patches? |
Yes. I did this one first since the first 8 tracks will be the same to advance the seed when the time comes. Or, if people don't want the audience here they can just wait for the SBD re-seed.

Great show with Tom Waits.
I'm really glad to have this upgrade and look forward to the soundboard version too.
