Our previous seed of this show is currently in Bad Sources due to being incomplete (first 90 minutes of show only, ending during the Cleveland piano solo). Here are samples of the longer, worse sounding source.

01 Zoot Allures (fades in during solo)

03 Let's Move To Cleveland (FZ solo - full sample)
04 Whipping Post (end of show)

I never had this one, well only the old seed. So nothing here to compare to.

Yojimbo's review of this show mentions that he had this source. Anyone else?

I guess no one else has this source.

Could someone check FA on these please? Alfonzo was concerned there might be NR (not that it makes a lot of difference in this case, in my opinion).

Someone should add the Review link to the Useful Links page.

I've just wasted a happy hour there!

Without further ado or comment, here's an FA of Sample 04 Whipping Post
(FA of all samples looking similar):

Hmm. So does anyone else have this? Good show, it would be nice to rescue it from Bad Sources.

I guess another question is whether the poor FA could be due to low quality recording gear used by the taper, rather than NR.

If this is NR it will have artifacts. As that is a severe hole punch in the graph.
To me it could be a poor quality capture that is generated. The generated nature is all that hiss in the high end. I bet no music is there at all.

It could be EQ though, hard to tell, but you could do that with EQ.
Could this be mp3 back to Wav? No I guess that usually looks like a step, not a slide...

doctorzap was the one who said that it was surely NR because his was (in an other thread) ...but it sounds rather raw to my ear...then again I could be wrong...

There's no way this isn't NR'd - bad recording gear will give a slope that's somewhere between a rectangle and a right triangle - much more organic than this.

The "lip" is hallmark NR, with material left on the very high end to try and "plug up" the gap caused by the reduction of hiss, like drilling out the center of a gold ingot and patching it over.

Awesome! Glad to hear this, was beginning to worry only Yojimbo had a copy.

Well I have used noise reduction a lot and I 100% disagree with you. No way is that NR. Looks like wide notch EQ to me (probably to remove hum).

No doubt though this is probably not raw if it's EQ or the worst NR I have ever seen, it's tweaked.

If done right noise reduction can not be shown by FA/SA. They should look the same before and after if the NR module is a good one. In SF you can set how much EQ to apply after NR. Most people have no idea how to use it though.

It is... Sad hiss+distortion from the low-end+tape deterioriation(?)... Anyway the sound is "lighter" (maybe NR ) from Bamboozled by Love till the end of Whippin' Post in other words the sound changes after the tape-flip...(maybe another cassette for this part?)....
