Thank you, Drew! Now I can cross yet another recording off the list of tapes that were inside a box that mysteriously vanished between Canada and France in 2007!

One interesting bit: in track 17 at 1:58 (after an edit) FZ says "I hope you go and see Iggy, he's a friend of mine. Quite a character." Iggy Pop?

I would think so. My wife knew him from the neighborhood in Detroit.
I looked at Ebay and from tickets he was touring in Late February of 1980, and also November of 1980. So he was touring probably in April too!

Iggy, a friend of FZ's! That's quite interesting, considering his general disposition towards punk rock. Then again, so is the inclusion of a Buzzcocks track in the show...

The WPIX DJ guest spots is pretty much Punk with live Zappa thrown in. Well new wave anyway. No other Iggy, it must be Pop! Although at the time was a drug user, which makes it unlikely they were friends. Who else could it be though? Maybe he was just joking? We have that quote out of context, so what he actaully said we will never know, we only get a fragment.

On Google I saw that he had a tour starting in the East Coast in Feb 80 and reached Tempe, AZ on March 31, so it's likely he did play California in early April.

Yeah, I thought about that too. But it would not be the first time there were contradictions between FZ's public figure and his personal life - he was obviously much more tolerant about others' habits and tastes than he tried to make himself known to be. Personally I think there's a lot of great music in the "punk" genre, including Iggy Pop (lots of crap too, but that's in any genre).

Punk rock is great, i grew up with it, with the roots like MC5 from Detroit, my home town. Then in my 20's in the mid-70's, it is the music of my peers. Having met in recent years a friend of Frank's. I can confirm what you say. His public and private life are two different beasts.

I don't know much about Johnny Guitar Watson or FZ's other blues or doo wop heroes but I'd guess some of them had drug issues at one time or another too.

FZ played the Mudd Club later in this spring 80 tour (and of course he played the song "Mudd Club" throughout the tour) so it makes sense he would be citing new wave/punk songs in this show, even if he ended up putting the style down in "Tinseltown Rebellion" by fall 80.

Yes, but was disappointed with my copy. Side 2 takes a great dive in quality. I will sample it for possible upgrades out there. I will do it fairly soon.
