SBD (theGrape-doctorzap-mudsharknyc)

Arrow PREAMBLE: This FZ Shows entry showcases the available SBD portion from, imo, one of the finest performances by FZ & the 1980 Fall Touring Band. While this known soundboard had previously underwent sundry alterations in its various circulations, we are hereby proud to present the unadulterated raw SBD source in its original form thanks to the kind contribution from doctorzap.

Arrow SOURCE INFORMATION: This SBD recording is sourced from a cdr obtained from theGrape by doctorzap, thus can hereby be considered a digital copy of the digital master generously made available in the S&F forum by doctorzap here:
1980 10 31 SBD (Grape-doctorzap)

Arrow IMPORTANT SOURCE NOTATIONS: Whenever this SBD was originally transferred to cdr, the peak volume levels were pushed to the limits and are herewith left completely ‘as is’. Additionally, the cdr source as received by doctorzap did suffer from several millisecond gaps of silence (perhaps SBE’s ?), which were primarily located during song segues. These millisecond gaps have hereby been meticulously appropriated along with a couple of other very small fixes.

Arrow SQ NOTATIONS: This SBD portion, can be best described as having 2 separate SQ differentials. The first spanning 31:10 minutes from the start of the show “Chunga’s Revenge” up through the source cut in “Pick Me I’m Clean”. The second spanning 31:12 minutes starting from the source cut in to “City of Tiny Lites” onward to the source cut during the start of a keyboard solo in “The Torture Never Stops” where this source ends. The entire second span, as referenced above, is somewhat veiled in the highs in comparison to the first part of the show. This is inherent to the master cdr copy obtained. No matter, it remains a highly enjoyable listen.

Arrow MOREOVER: There are areas within this SBD of slight left channel sound issues inherent from the actual SBD feed (mostly during "Chunga's Revenge"). It has additionally been widely speculated that this SBD feed may have actually been some kind of monitor mix. Whatever the case, let it be known that this performance is outright riveting in every aspect. Great FZ solos abound complimented by the intricate playing and expressions from the entire band. May we also not forget to mention the highly prominent A+ grade rhythmic encyclopedia mastery of Vinnie being so exercised and present herein. Wow! Perhaps its best to recommend strapping on a seat belt prior to experiencing this masterpiece of mind blowing polyrhythmic events. All in all, this show easily demonstrates how very talented this 1980 Fall Tour Band truly was. Huge thanks once again to doctorzap and theGrape for sharing such an inspiring and spine chilling musical event and historical FZ recording.

Beautiful! Thank you!

If you just been lowered down here on tv by a wire connected to a brown leather harness, forced by a crazy person to insert a mysterious imported lamp into the reproductive orifice of a lady harpist, and you were a dwarf.....would you do it?
