Queen - that BBC thing from 1973-1977

I will offer it for sale again right away; the concert sets from 1975 and 1974 in London are fine for me, nice additions to my collection, but not this one. Instead of displaying some raw live power, most BBC tracks to me sound like... I don't know... half-assed studio demos. Neither fish nor fowl.

Sun Ra by Brian Hannerty - The Star-Faced One - From the Sun Ra/El Saturn Archives (2013)

person let loose in an archive, comes up with something listenable thanks to the band dialogue/rare radio shows.
shame he had to cheat and use his own band to stitch it together. may ditch this one.

As for QUEEN, and I'm not a true fan by any means, but thanks for giving balance.

I love that set, but i knew what to expect from the bootlegs.

My favorite tracks on this one are:

See What A Fool I've Been (much better than the b-side, this is the ferocious way they did it live)
Son And Daughter (Session 2) (i never get tired of Brian's Brighton Rock solo)
Modern Times Rock 'N' Roll (Session 4)
White Queen (refinement of studio version meets the live version's less cluttered arrangement)
We Will Rock You (fast) (i prefer this arrangement to the more well-known one)
Spread Your Wings (i love the rave-up ending to this one)
It's Late (nice raw live-in-the-studio romp through an underappreciated rocker)

A big part of the enjoyment is the fact that they didn't fuck up the dynamics on this one.

Strangely enough the tracks from the first album which are drastically different mixes with alternate vocals and other parts also sound a lot clearer here. Do they measure up? Sometimes, but some tracks are best on the albums.

In conclusion, as frank2441 likes to say, itZ all good.

For the first time in my life I am without a stereo, car stereo, or personal stereo. Its all in boxes and has been for a few weeks now. "Long story."

But before I signed off on the car, I was listening to some things by John Martyn, specifically, Solid Air (1973). It 're ones me of all the things I love about UK folk and folk rock from that era, has good songs, and a great lineup.
