Sun Ra yesterday:

Secrets of the Sun (1962)

Continuation, vol.1 (1963 or '68)
I thought this is from 1963 when listening to it, and in certain spots I thought I couldn't believe my ears (I just say "Intergalaxtic Research" - in 1963 ???); I now learned, when looking for a cover pic, that it's actually from 1968.
edit: No, there's more sources claiming this is from March 1963, which would be fucking incredible! Intergalaxtic Research could be from a 2000s avant post punk band trying out a really far out free-formish jam. Mind blown.

feat. Pharaoh Sanders and Black Harold (1964)
Interesting how far Sun Ra had developed the Arkestra's live routines for the next few years already by 1964.
Same goes for Pharoah Sanders' playing... easily as extreme and forward-thinking as Albert Ayler's playing from the same time, but quite different in approach.

Heliocentric Worlds vol. 1 (1965)
The only one in this 1st batch I was familiar with, and I still like it a lot. The open textural approaches here, with bass marimba and stuff, again are quite forward-thinking. Roscoe Mitchell and some other AACM people probably took notes. Strong stuff.

my favorite Björk release hearts

I started to use "Army of Me" as a play-along track in my drum lessons. What fun (at least for me Razz)

I tend to prefer her first LP "Debut"...
Is it me or was "Army of Me" based on John Bonham drumming from Led Zeppelin's "When the Levee Breaks" ? I don't remember that the sample was credited in the booklet (I still have the great red box set CD+DVD audio+video of Björk - I should check it...)

I always felt "Army of me" has a bit of an LZ-vibe. Thinking about it, if you loop just the first half of the drum
groove in When the Levee Breaks, you indeed get the "Army of me"-groove. Interesting idea it could be a
sample, though from memory I'd say the drums in "Levee" sound quite different. But the Beastie Boys took it for
"Rhymin' and Stealing" + the "Sweet Leaf"-riff from Black Sabbath, if I remember right. So the title is
appropriate.

album for today:

Frou Frou: Details (this is a collab including Imogen Heap)

I'm in "melodious adult oriented pop"-hell.
While listening to it today I felt three tracks could be taken from Björk-CDs 1995 to 2001, only Immi sings
instead of Björk. It wouldn't be the best Björk-tracks, but I think it's fun to listen anyway. Lots of kitsch here,
but when a song has this kind of chorus https://youtu.be/r3Cg1wxgX6M?t=47s I can't resist. When
I'm in the mood for light female-fronted poppy electronica stuff, this is my kinda thing and I get more tolerant
for the kitsch surrounding it.

Time to return to Sun Ra soon for balance. Razz
