I think the only way you'll find that out is if you emailed Joel Thome - orch.time@gmail.com

Thank you very much for posting this - I've waited a long time for this one (my tape of this show was among those lost somewhere between western Canada and France about three-and-a-half years ago).

I don't know what happened to Maureen McNalley, but Sue Ann Kahn taught at Bennington College in Bennington, Vermont, between 1972 and 1994. I was a student there between 1987 and 1991, and I remember that she was very pleasant and had very long hair.

Thank you.

Speaking of the turnover in the Orchestra Of Our Time, only conductor Joel Thome and bass trombonist David Taylor were in both the Varèse tribute in 1981 and Zappa's Universe in 1991. (And they both were in the 1993 Zappa/Varèse concert as well.)

I'm finding it most likely that the OOOT was in fact an ad-hoc ensemble put together by Thome for whenever the opportunity arose.

Note that two contractors, Jonathan Haas (for the MTE?) and Neil Balm (for the OOOT?), are credited in the 1993 program—supporting the idea that a significant number of musicians had to be hired specifically for the concert.

On the other hand, the 1981 program lists an OOOT staff of six (assistant to Thome, director of development, bookkeeper, personnel manager, coordinator, librarian) but no contractor. So maybe it was a standing orchestra at that time.
