Frank Zappa & The Mothers
Bath Festival of Blues and Progressive Music
Shepton Mallet, UK
1970 06 28

~~ (probably*) from 2nd gen AUD tape ~~

* see note of caution below from taper and orig. DIME seeder (Coops2009)

This may be the best sounding raw version currently in circulation,
all other versions appearing to be higher gen copies or otherwise remastered versions
of same master source origin, with same cuts and flaws.
No fills currently available.

Upgrade to orig. DIME version:
- speed corrected,
- phase offset adjusted
- gain level adjusted
- minor drop outs fixed, major drop outs left untouched
- 6 minutes of pre show banter, tuning and band introductions included from earlier EZT seed (2004) of unknown gen copy from same master source origin.
- raw from orig. seed, no further sound adjustments, no NR, no EQ.

Fragments from the following Donovan solo performance, coming with the original tape, as seeded on DIME,
are also included with this re-seed, as 'bonus' track 18.
This Donovan solo performance may or may not have happened right after the Zappa concert.
The announcement made by Donovan (is that really him ?) at the end of Track 17 ("I suppose that by now everyone knows that I am part of the Zappa Act ...")
could suggest that it actually did.

Note of caution from Coops2009 (with orig.DIME seed):
>>
Lineage uncertain for audience recordings
This maybe a 2nd gen copy of my original master
If so recorded on Sony TC50 cassette deck with Sony Stereo Mike
12 feet in air on a pole about 200 yds from center stage.
CDR ripped to flacs with Direct Audio Converter>

Explanation:
The Bath Festival was my first major recording event, but in those days
I was less careful at archiving these things.I can distinctly remember recording, Frank Zappa, Country Joe, steppenwolf and Zeppelin. An a few more
I managed to lose the original tapes a few years later but they had been traded by then, some time later i managed to get new copies from an old contact.
I believe the audience ones are my recordings, though obviously I am sure others were made. I can occasionally hear a voice that sounds like mine

Its by no means perfect but the mike being high up helped, I'd give them a 7 out of 10.

Many thanks to Coops2009 for taping these shows at the Bath Festival

Enjoy & Happy 40th anniversary !!

Thanks for your efforts to spiff this one up, while I know you can't make a purse from this sow's ear, it's nice to know the Bath show got the flambay treatment.

I didn't have any Donovan on my tape, so I always assumed it was Mark or Howie saying that. Doesn't Donovan have a distinct Scotch accent?
