1985 818-Pumpkin Messages 7.19 (Teddy-pbuzby)

I'm posting these in samples in case anyone has a better recording.

Tracks 2-6 were apparently recorded onto a used tape with non-Zappa music. I isolated the left channel and converted it to mono to filter out most of the music, but some of it is still audible.

These seem to be in roughly chronological order around August/September 1985.

1985 818-Pumpkin Messages 7.19 (Teddy-pbuzby)

unknown gen cassette -> Sony TC-WE475 -> REALTEC AC-97 ->
Goldwave (recording, editing) -> CDWav (tracking) -> FLAC 8 -> FLAC

recorded or collected by: Teddy
editing: pbuzby

Note: Track 1 is much quieter than tracks 2-6.
Tracks 2-6: left channel pasted onto right.

01 FZ Message One (FZ does customer service)
02 FZ Message Two (Nightwatch)
03 FZ Message Three (Hollywood Closeup, Nightwatch, Senate Hearings)
04 Non-FZ Message One (TV/Senate Appearance Info, New Puppy Acquired)
05 Non-FZ Message Two (TV/Senate Appearance Info, New Puppy Reprimanded)
06 Non-FZ Message Three (Mothers Of Prevention, Halloween, Z-Pac, Talk Shows)

In the old days before the internet, if you wanted to see what was happening in the world of Zappa you called the 818 number. Here is some of the messages you would hear. At times a live person would answer sometimes even Frank himself. I never talked to Frank, but have talked to Gail's sister numerous times. Both blackpage and I have a number of these collected. I torrented one of the blackpage ones, when Frank died. The message by Moon, about playing the music. Now they claim Frank never said that, they made it up as they needed something to put on the line. Revisionist history if you ask me. Ike says Frank said it to him too.

I remember the Moon message.

I believe I called the hotline a few other times around 92/93 but the announcements were mostly about Dweezil.

One piece had a Tommy Mars synth/vocal solo, but wasn't Zappa. Steve Vai's Flexable?
