Frank Zappa
Kosei Nenkin Kaikan
Osaka, Japan
1976 02 03

samples from Eyes Of Osaka boot, seeded here: http://www.zappateers.com/bb/viewtopic.php?t=1539

available tapes according FZshows:
1976 02 03 - Kosei Nenkin Kaikan, Osaka, Japan
125 min, Aud, A/A-
Intro, Stinkfoot, Dirty Love, Filthy Habits, How Could I Be Such A Fool?, I Ain't Got No Heart, I'm Not Satisfied, Black Napkins [parts in ZA, [FZPTMOFZ], Advance Romance, Honey Don't You Want A Man Like Me?, The Illinois Enema Bandit, Wind Up Workin' In A Gas Station, Tryin' To Grow A Chin, The Torture Never Stops, Chunga's Revenge [incl. Hands With A Hammer, YCDTOSA3], Zoot Allures [parts on YCDTOSA3; incl. Ship Ahoy, SUNPYG), Outro, I'm The Slime, San Ber'dino, Outro

Our current seed, the "Eyes Of Osaka" boot, comes with these few flaws:
- needs speed correction,
- has a short cut in Advance Romance (sample 109a),
- warbles in Chunga's Revenge, shortly before start of drum solo (sample 206),
- and two cuts, but probably also some overlap during the Chunga's Revenge drum solo (sample 206)

Other than that, as stated by pbuzby in the Kyoto thread:
"The boot seems to leave little to be desired, IMO."

But also: "Is there a better source for 1976 02 03 than the Eyes Of Osaka boot?"

Thanks for speaking up and for bringing up samples for comparison, just in case.

Samples seeded here:

101 Intro sample (start Disc 1)
109a Advance Romance sample (around cut)
109b Advance Romance sample (end Disc 1)
201 Honey Don't You Want A Man Like Me (start Disc 2)
206 Chunga's Revenge (entire drum solo) - probably with about 1 min overlap, sonic flaws (warble) before start drum solo
210 San Berdino - Outro (end Disc 2)

Lineage info with current seed:
Unknown > CD > Wavelab Lite extraction > FLAC using dbPowerAMP level 4 compression (medium)

Do we have a tape sourced version we should work on instead,
or a CD sourced one with better lineage (EAC etc.) ?

Fills ? Patches ?

Do all versions of this boot have that overlap in the Drum Solo ?

Part of the drum solo is repeated on the boot.

I have never found one. I do have this boot, and I do know the offset to my drive. Although it is buried somewhere as i have been doing renovations to the house and it's packed away.
I have 3 tape copies all inferior, not really even close, may be of different sources? Never checked.
I figured as in most boots, better must exist, and I never found that better version.

This has always been a strong sounding boot. It would be interesting to know origins of it.

I seem to recall a little more Frank talking on the tape I had. Introducing San Berdino. Sorry I can't check.

I will dig in, when I can. Look for added material like inbetween song chatter.

A good idea to bring this one up for discussion!
I used to mess around with it before I knew about Zappateers. I tried to correct the speed (it runs just a bit too fast) but slowing it down made it sound more dull. As Frank's Black Napkins edit is running even faster, I left the speed alone. Of course, most of what I did at the time was rather remastering than restauration, but there are a few flaws in there that can be improved without a breach of Zappateers rules.
Right on, man!

I have an alleged 1st gen, not boot-sourced, on CDR from LC. I'll check it out when I come home. I've heard rumours that the bootleg was made right from the master, so it's possible that it's hard to beat.
