PLEASE NOTE: This is SONICALLY IDENTICAL to the old seed, which can still be read by clicking HERE.

Aside from two files (detailed below), this is BYTE for BYTE IDENTICAL to the old seed.

If you rename your old files per our naming standards (folder = "1974 12 31 Long Beach CA 132.37 Aud (Hoosac92-kristoftof)", filenames = "1974 12 31 Long Beach CA - ## <title>.flac", you will start the download at 75% or higher. You should delete the old .txt files, as well as tracks 17 (Montana) and 18 (Dupree's Paradise), as these have all been re-edited.

Consider this "mostly free ratio" for our older members, and a good chance for the newbies to grab this very feel-good 1974 show!

The end of the Roxy era, and what a way to end it! No tour after this would quite capture the Duke/Fowler bands' wonderful mix of inspired instrumentation, near-constant humor, and the entire "world behind the scenes" so constantly on display here - Boogers from space, Marty and his dogs, Ruth and her various sexual proclivities; no other tour really had a pervasive "theme" like this one (the closest we'll get are the panty-raps of late 1980 and the "I am so glad to never have to play this shithole in <countryname>" of 1982 - and maybe the "Deepest Africa" secret words of late June and July 1980).

So what better way to explore these themes than by listening to this excellent New Year's show? The sound is a little vague and echoey, with some ugly speed fluctuations here and there (mostly contained on the second tape side - see below), but the highlights certainly shine through - check out George's hilarious pre-Dupree's monologue (with some "Emperor of Ohio"-sounding chords!), or the beautiful Zoot Allures-esque Zappa solo fifteen minutes thereafter. Bird Legs also guests on San Ber'dino and the very last "Can't Afford No Shoes" ever performed for an audience (well, the last one performed by Frank, at least) - this version isn't quite as jolly as the skeletal version performed on the out of control 9/25/74L Gothenburg show, but maybe the terrible pitch fluctuations influence my opinion here.

Still, if your ears can tolerate low-fi recordings, you owe it to yourself to check this show out!

Kristoftof's original info.txt follows, with modifications in MANLY, IMPOSING PURPLE.

OMG...thank you very much for the show. I was at this one, so many years ago. I have a little, funny story about that night: After the show, we took the long drive from Long Beach back to the west side of Los Angeles. This is around 50 miles or so. We decided to go to get some food at the infamous Norm's Coffee Shop on La Cienega BLvd., in West Hollywood. By now, it must have been around 3:30 am. The place was packed and everyone was waiting for a table. Of all people, who would come in? There were George Duke and Tom Fowler and their women. My friend and I were dumbstruck. We had just seen these guys play and we were a long ways from where the concert was held. We went up to them and they were very nice. It seems, they had the same idea as we did...to get some eats at Norm's. -davelick

Confused A recording is only as good as its weakest link. This is A GREAT show...UNFORTUNATELY..someone decided to record it over an existing recording (hence the warbly sound...)....a VERY common mistake with the early 90's bootleg crowd. Kinda shits on the rest of us... NO OFFENSE I HOPE!! Love the fact that it's even out here..and I THANK YOU FOR THAT. Regardless..we need to hunt down the person who "Over-Dubbed" (ENTIRELY DIFFERENT MEANING HERE) this and get to the root of it before it's lost. Just my opinion. Keep crankin 'em out!! LOVE THE WORK YOU ALL DO!!
