PLEASE NOTE: This is SONICALLY IDENTICAL to the old seed, which can still be read by clicking HERE. Aside from the changed file and folder names and the new ffp.txt, this is EXACTLY THE SAME.

If you rename your old files per our naming standards (folder = "1974 11 29 Naperville IL 62.28 SBD (Hoosac92-Cookie Manager-Ktof)", filenames = "741129-Naperville - ## title.flac" (in other words, stripping the superfluous spaces from around the first hyphen, and removing the H prefixing the track numbers)), you will start the download at 99%. The only file that has been changed is the ffp.txt file, which has been updated to account for the new filenames.

So consider this "free ratio" for our older members, and a good chance for the newbies to grab this shit-hot 1974 show!

As others mentioned in the old thread, Naperville (evidently a very whitebread, bland suburb of Chicago) is a downright odd location to feature a Frank Zappa concert - let alone two! Frank's opinion of the sound is none too high - "boy, I can't remember when I played a hall that sounds [sic) shittier than this place!". The audience, naturally, applauds.

While the setlist may seem a bit drab (by 1974 standards - i.e., no Montana > Dupree's, or Pygmy > Room), this tape is the "infamous" Bird Legs Mix - his bass dominates the mix during the first half of the tape, and highlights both how well the guy can groove (his vamping during the RDNZL solo is excellent, even throwing the occasional phrase back at FZ, O'Hearn/Thunes style), as well as... well, the potential pitfalls one might encounter when trying to play Zappa's music on such short notice (his playing on Stinkfoot is particularly hesitant).

Aside from that - it's fall 1974, what more needs to be said? drool

So, without further ado, here are Kristoftof's original notes (with the ffp changed to reflect the new names)!

-------------------------------------------------------------------
From FZShows, v. 7.1:
1974 11 29 - Field House, North Central College, Naperville, IL
60 min, SBD, A-
Strange mix, with Bird Legs' bass mixed way up front.
-------------------------------------------------------------------

From The Catalogue:
1974 11 29 Naperville, IL - SBD 60min A-
not available
note: only heavily nr ninja version known
-------------------------------------------------------------------
-------------------------------------------------------------------

The sample history bring us 2 versions , from the same source
-The better sounding one came from Cookie_Manager, but is a little bit equalizzzed/nr? (not too much !)
(The better sounding part is not all over the show, but from track 01 to 08
>>samples here:
http://www.zappateers.com/bb/viewtopic.php?t=12186

-The second version came from Hoosac92. The sound is a little lower (track 01 to 08) and a bit better after
>>samples here:
http://www.zappateers.com/bb/viewtopic.php?t=12104

now then "oldie" eh roflol roflol

and Frank's comment above......reminds me of the first time I ever saw him (1977 feb 12th)"New Bingley Hall - County Showground Stafford UK" Shocked yeh I was late seeing him after listening and being an addict since November 69 & yes it's only a memory now as NO tape exists.....31 years of searching has proved that.

There Frank said how he was delighted that you (us) all could come and see me on a shitty night like this in such a shit hole".

deja vu eh. Smile

It has to be said that that is exactly what Bingley Hall is....a cattle market that is also used for a county showground and in those days a concert venue as well.

So thank's for bringing that memory back to an "oldie"

cheers

cooler cooler cooler cooler cooler cooler cooler cooler
