Frank Zappa
Culver City CA Rehearsals
Unknown location
1978 12 XX - tape #1

First upload from a series of three (!!) newly acquired and hitherto uncirculated
rehearsal tapes, labeled by the original collector as "Late 1978 Rehearsal #1, #2 and #3".

The music heard in all three tapes fits that description,
meaning that it consists mostly of material which will be heard for the first time during the 1979 Tour and in the Joe's Garage release.
These tapes are also including material which would never get to be heard
live in concert or in official releases, such as the Twenty One-Outside Now combination heard here in tape 1,
or the different (early) stages of the Saddle Bags theme found in tapes 2 and 3.
(Later stages of Saddle Bags can also be found in some of the 1979 02 XX London England rehearsal tapes,
also on this tracker.)

A big novelty for the Zappa collector should be the inclusion of the Number Seven theme,
played by FZ himself & band here in tape #1, in combination with Twenty One and the Outside Now Variations.
The only recording in which this theme could be heard so far
is the (Swedish) "Omnibus Wind Ensemble plays Zappa" CD release.

Enjoy this newly discovered stuff.

Thanks so much to those who have made it possible for us to hear these tapes now:
to the taper, and to the generous contributor of this copy, who will both remain anonymous.

According to FZshows: (not listed yet)

This copy: 83.15 min, Studio, B+

Top! The rehearsal stuff I first received through Zappateers in my early days here really brought a new fresh view to Franky's universe! Very fond memories of listening first to all those 79/80/81-rehearsal tapes... This looks similarly promising... Thanks!!

The present day stattewäbchen refuses to compose.

And it aint christmas yet!

Carnaby clothes, I reshaped my nose,
Plastic surgery's best.
To cut down my weight off comes my left leg.
I pass a swimming costume test.

Look out there's a monster coming!

A couple weeks ago. An old trading friend asked if I could use them? Man that was a dumb question. I still have to return tapes. We got them out in short order.
