Although at times Arthur's voice is low, and hiss is high, this is a really good interview. Most of the rest of my Juha tapes are not perfect. I already torrented the best sounding ones. Anyway to continue in the band series I present Arthur Barrow.

Recording levels were low, and on my tape they are boosted, so you get a lot of hiss, and also Juha hand held mic, and keeps hitting shit with it. This is noted in another interview where the interviewie offers a mic stand, since they are in a studio. I'm being picky here, sounds great otherwise.
This interview has loads of information, excellent for researchers. Arthur is a great guy, and a good person to interview. I'm sure Juha was very happy with this one.
Some other interviews were done over the phone, and I have yet ever to get a good recording off the phone. I recorded a number of 818 Pumpkin messages, and getting a good capture was extremely difficult. I would rate them low in quality too. I may present some in the future. The current offering, and the next do have lot's of hiss.

Thank you drew. Arthur is my personal favorite zappa bassist. I can't wait to hear what they talk about, I hope some of it revolves around his time as clonemeister.

Yeah this is a good one. Next is not as good, but OK, worth checking out too. I'll post tomorrow if I can.

I have others with Barrow, and Mars too, one day i will get to them. These Juha interviews though are good, so wanted to do them first.

Drew, what did Juha do with these field recordings?

Is there a book out there?

I don't think nothing came of it. I think a book was in mind, but that never materialized. Some or at least one of these interviews was printed I think in the Blackpage fanzine. I happen to have other research material from another author, who also gave up on putting out a book. In general for a book or articles, basic field tapes are very common. We are lucky that so many have made them available to us. I can say that for every one we hear, ten others exist we probably will never hear. We have a lot of books out there, few tapes, it's difficult to obtain these research tapes, let alone have permission to share them. I did not know Juha, but another collector like me obtained permission to share them. I hope any authors reading this will consider sharing their research with us, well once a book is published of course.
Trying to obtain these have been a weird experience. Some don't mind at all others call me a bootlegger, and swear, jump up and down and get all upset about it. I'm pretty much done doing shit like that. For every 20 I ask, I may get one guy to agree. Loads of tapes exist I just could not obtain.

Informative and funny interview.

Interesting to hear Arthur talk about the UMRK rehearsal tapes.

And samples on the tracker too...

Good work prost

Weren't some printed in T'Mershi Duween? I thought Juha was TD's "Evil Prince".
