~~ 1st gen Audience source, almost complete w.fills ~~

Secret Word : Ring Of Fire

This is to my knowledge one of the funniest 1988 shows around.
Almost every song here is infested with tonight's Secret Word Theme:
Ring Of Fire Quotes (musical and verbal) and silly Johnny Cash impersonation vocals wherever possible. Can't get enough of this ...

A considerable part of material from this show has found its way onto official releases, mainly "The Best Band You Never Heard In Your Life".

Thanks to jazzfromhell we're happy to present here a sonic and 'generational' upgrade to the previous WIU2B seed:
a 1st gen Audience Tape rip, nearly complete with fills from an (inferior sounding) alternate source Master or 1st gen CD-R copy,
kindly provided by Yojimbo.

Sadly, the 2nd tape flip in each version is located around the same spot (COTL > Pound segue),
so a bit from the beginning of Pound For a Brown is still missing.

Anyhow, we're sure you'll enjoy listening to this great show (again).
And while you're at it - don't miss reading this review.

Thank you. Does anyone have the soundcheck? There were reggae and metal versions of Ring of Fire if my memory serves me well. It would be marvelous to hear them again.

Incredible!
This show is more than 20 years old and still the upgrades come running...

Here some comments from Mike Keneally:

"The Wurzburg experience was very amusing. I had written a postcard home about it. Johnny Cash was supposed to be at that show, so we rehearsed "Ring Of Fire" in a metal, I mean, sorry, a reggae version, and "I Walk The Line" in a heavy metal version. But as to what actually happened in the show, we'll get to that. ...
Between the soundcheck and the show, we discovered that Johnny Cash would not be gracing us with his presence. However, since I managed to do a serviceable Johnny Cash impersonation in soundcheck, Frank asked if I would be willing to do it during the show and I said, "Sure."

So Ring Of Fire was not initially written into the set list, but it got stuck in. The set was: Heavy Duty Judy, then, Ring Of Fire, unplanned, just called on the spot after someone in the audience asked what the secret word for the day was, and Frank said it was "ring of fire," and to demonstrate we did it, and the words "ring of fire," and little musical bits of "Ring of Fire" managed to find themselves in almost every song that night. It was very funny, and everybody was doing Johnny Cash impersonations. ..."

What a pity, the metal version of "I Walk The Line" didn't make it into the show.

Thanks to everybody involved!
