David G. Porter edited this interview strangely. He takes out his questions and just all you hear is the answers. it makes it a little tough to follow. Adds a "nature sounds" track to background. We have some artifact noise from the copy I had. But it is better then the fm analog capture. Which you will hear in part two. Keep volume low for pt-2. Warning, harsh sounds in this one.

Ray Collins
Interview By David G. Porter

Conducted: 1989 08 xx - August 1989
Broadcast 1989 12 xx on KPFK 90.7 FM, Los Angeles, CA and
KLON 88.1 FM Long Beach, CA

Source:
Part One:
1st generation cassette, Pre-FM version from
David G. Porter archives
Lineage: Maxell XLII Cassette>Nakamichi CR-7A cassette deck>Gina20>
Sound Forge 7.0 (record/edits)>CDWave>Shntool(SBE check/correction)>
FLAC Level 8

Source:
Part Two:
Unknown generation FM capture*
Lineage: TDK SA90 Cassette>Nakamichi CR-7A cassette deck>
Gina20> Sound Forge 7.0 (record/edits)>CDWave>
Shntool(SBE check/correction)>FLAC Level 8

Taped By: David G Porter (Pt-1)
Transferred By: Drew51
Edited By: Drew51

Breakdown:
1) part One:
Studio Interview and nature sound composite by Porter
2) Part Two:
Micro Bus interview**

Notes:

*labled as 1990 12 02 KPFK FM - Could be KLON broadcast
Or is mis-labled, or yet another unknown broadcast.

** Not sent by Porter because of lack of
quality. Recovered from FM analog capture. It is
very rough and hard to listen to. Keep volume down.
I see why he didn't include it. But for completeness
it's here. You decide it's value.

Credits:
Thanks to Mr. Porter for main body
Also to Aad H. For the FM capture.

Ray Collins - wowie zowie - the most mysterious of the old Mothers.
He never made it into the Magic Band, he didn't even join the good old Grandmothers with their silly revival approach - in fact I have no Idea what happened to him after 1969 - special thanks for this one !

At least he's present on those May 1970 Mothers' re-union recordings (man, you have those - I checked your completed downloads Razz)

i just found the tapes in a box and made me wonder - they r on 3 (90) min cassettes. Having at least one interview of each fromer member would be nice too.

Yeah sounds like the big one, in Society Pages, but other society pages interviews exist also.
I will get to it eventually. I wanted to look at another copy, waiting for that also. 2 recorders were going. Hoping to obtain the 2nd one, but I'm no where near ready to even look at it.
I have been doing this for three years now, have yet to scratch the surface...

Hey I can respect what he says as he is not speaking out of anger. He criticizes, yet shows respect. So I'm more likely to hear what he has to say. Art Tripp rips Zappa, says he's not a composer, can't read music, then clarifies, he meant sight read. Hey, that's also a skill. And Tripp owns one album, that's it. He's not even a music fan, he makes no sense. He is illogical. Collins is just saying how he sees it. I can respect that. I think he was hurt, and felt not respected. He was probably right. But hey, it's not Frank's job to provide a living for him. Collins had more chances then most.

After 15 month at Zappateers it seems I have finally aroused the suspicion of the BRAINPOLICE, who, like in real life, come disguised as a friendly TV-Monster!

Allright - here comes my plea: Baysickly you're right, but all those flacs are hidden in a 2 ft 3" pile of 450 cd-r's (I bought an external HD only yesterday). On the other hand, to make matters worse: I didn't even think of Ray when listening to MOFO !!! Not to mention Mayonnaise Mountain - Oh Atlantis !!!

Now that I have confessed, will you give me a donut? Wink
