One of the most requested '88 shows, and with good reason. For one explanation, look at the setlist with its many cuts used on the CDs, although it doesn't mention that the show features a rare experimental Black Napkins.

This is the first of two sources that will probably be appearing. It is a clean, close-sounding recording, while the one used for fills is more echoey and roomy, but perhaps more lively. The reported lineage is "2nd gen from DAT," which seems unlikely since the gaps at the 45-minute mark in both sets suggest that it is an analog master, but, to be optimistic, perhaps the DAT came straight from the analog.

1988 02 09 Warner Theatre, Washington D.C. 141.10 AUD 2nd (dwindt-pbuzby)

AUD (MC?) -> DAT -> 2nd Gen Analog -> Sony TC-WE475 -> Realtec AC-97 -> Goldwave (recording, speed correction, volume boost to tape side 4) -> CDWav (tracking) -> EAC (append) -> FLAC 8 -> FLAC

tape collected by: dwindt
transfer/edit by: pbuzby
speed suggestions: flambay

fills: unknown gen analog - ripped by WIU2B - seeded by flambay (volume adjustment by pbuzby)

Come to think of it, though, I could really use a few new ears.
I'll be having some weird dreams tonight, I'm sure.

By the way, thank you for this show, Mr. Buzby

Yes!

For those of you who are interested in this sorta stuff: I believe it was "the" Mike Keneally who mentioned that the reason tonight's Black Napkins was extended was due to an on-stage miscue (according to Pat's 1988 tour site: "According to concertgoer Eric Prosser, this came about because FZ's guitar wasn't working, prompting him to cue these surprise horn solos in frustration" - so not Mike, then Embarassed ). The end result is beauty, similar to the beauty of the Torture Never Stops horn solo (arising due to a horribly out-of-tune guitar) later on in April.

If anyone finds themselves back in 1988, about to attend a Zappa show - do us all a favor and sabotage a random piece of gear. Twisted Evil

(just keep your filthy hands off of the birthday cake)

Mike, you said it before I could, haha. Worse yet, I can tell exactly where the mp3's originated from, their content have his fingerprints all over them, so I am again overjoyed to see another release here replacing one I found god knows where else. I raise my glass to the 'teers and say thanks!
