Previously listed as 1968 10 ??. From a TV program. Full pro-shot video exists.
intro, Improvisations, King Kong, In The Sky

Speaking of never seen, here is something that really, really is "never seen".

I have an excellent VHS (1st or 2nd gen) of this, which I sent to Nanook long ago. I know he's being kept very busy by a baby seal these days - are there any other Scandinavian Zappateers who have the equipment and skills to do a good VHS->digital transfer?

I don't collect stamps either. But, I do collect Zappa so even the C- shows are interesting to me. However, I totally understand if the votes go for never seen B- and up first. Like Drew said, it is great that you guys are sharing and if it takes time to get through them, so what? This is a labor of love in one way or another.

I'll tell you, I am still anxiously awaiting the arrival of the audience versions of Sydney 73-06-24 & 25 from our friends down under flyingtoadel & Murray! bowdown They are among my favorite Zappa performances and it would be great to sort out the mystery of the SBD versions.

I think I used to have this on tape. Definitely interesting if for nothing else than for the only live version of "200 Years Old" I know of. "Bird Legs" was also a pretty good fill-in bass player, especially given the circumstances, and I remember this being a pretty sweet show even if the sound wasn't the best ever.

Like all the Dick Barber tapes, both shows are very well circulated among tape traders. For some reason, they haven't found their way to Zappateers, something that we should try to change.

The AUDs from 11/09 haven't yet circulated losslessly (Ninja doesn't count). This is particularly important for the late show, since the AUD is nearly 100% different than the SBD.

Crying or Very sad

Some of Zappa's best shows (or at least "most interesting" shows) were in the C range - Philly 72, England 73, Madrid 79 (it's B-/C+, but a verrrrry generous B-/C+) and Rennes 82 all come to mind. I'm surprised Mr. Idiot Bastard Son hasn't spoken up yet Very Happy

I know I'd be particularly interested in the C/C- 10/26/80 E, being that it's the only known Fall 1980 recording that has yet to spread, period (I have what I recall being a somewhat problematic version of 10/28 Albany in some pile or another - I guess that may count as well).

Then again, looking over the mess of Crying or Very sad's in the Fall 80 catalogue, I guess I'd be happy enough with whatever. I guess. Razz

For what it's worth, I also second Mr. Pbuzby's curiousity regarding July 3rd 1980.

Careful what you ask for. Smile As I recall, this is a particularly painful listening experience, with nasty distortion and very some loud-mouthed morons near the taper.
My 1st gen of 10/28/80 is in competent hands, so it should show up sooner or later. The 7/3/80 Aud is on my to transfer list.

Loud-mouthed morons? Ugh, to hell with that shit Wink

Would you say it's worse than Cincinnati 1981? So far, that has my vote as "least listenable" - well, unless Halloween 1980 counts. Very Happy

ROCK!! and ROCK!!, respectively. Along with 6/30 (just look at that setlist), I'd say July 3rd is the Europe 1980 tape I'm most eager to finally hear.

For the foreseeable future, I won't be able to finish and seed any full length shows. But don't worry, my tape deck will keep on runnin', and I will be sending out raw dumps to competent Zappateers. After I've sent out the shows that already passed through the samples process (quite a few), I will start focusing on The Never Seen shows of The Catalogue. I've compiled a list of the shows that are "never seen", excluding those that are "never seen as lossless". I quickly realized that most of these are sparsely circulated for a reason - soundwise, they are in the C+/C- range.
I want some opinions - should I go ahead with these, starting out with the better-than-C+ tapes, or should I broaden my scope and look for better sounding tapes that are "only seen as lossy"? I'm also interested in requests/votes for the tapes in this list, if there are any of them that you are particularly interested in hearing.
A little disclaimer: I haven't checked the status on all of these against my collection, and it's possible that I only have some of these in NR'ed or otherwise altered versions. But most of them are on tapes, collected in the 90's.

Concerts/soundchecks:
1970 12 02 København, Denmark - two Aud recording: 95min C & 55min B (note: only heavily nr ninja version of the short version (57.57) has circulated - long version never seen)
1973 08 18 København, Denmark - Aud 130min B (note: an incomplete (92min) and very nr reducted version was seeded somewhere by woodpecker - no other versions known)
1974 07 13 St Petersburg, FL - Aud 90min B-
1975 10 12 Dallas, TX - Aud 80min B+/C+
1975 10 15 Fayetteville, AR - Aud 125min C+
1975 10 26 Hempstead, NY - Aud 100min B-
1976 02 17 Köln, Germany - Aud 150min B/C+
1976 02 29 København, Denmark Early Show - Aud 115min C
1976 11 04 Landover (aka Largo), MD - Aud 70min B/B-
.....

i did recently transfer the following shows:

70 12 02 Copenhagen DK ~94 Aud (M-walk)
74 07 13 St. Petersburg FL ~44 Aud (M-walk)
74 08 11 San Diego CA ~132 Aud (M-walk)

please let me know when and with which we can start

furthermore i could transfer (i did not listen to this recordings yet, so the quality can vary):

1975 10 12 Dallas, TX - Aud 80min B+/C+ °°° my list says ~85 vg-
1975 10 15 Fayetteville, AR - Aud 125min C+ °°° ~125 vg-
1975 10 26 Hempstead, NY - Aud 100min B- °°° the list says late here; ~100 vg
1976 02 17 Köln, Germany - Aud 150min B/C+ °°° a short version ~39 ex-
1976 02 17 Köln, Germany - Aud 150min B/C+ °°° a long version ~147 vg-
1976 11 04 Landover (aka Largo), MD - Aud 70min B/B- °°° ~70 vg-
....

i could continue here, but i think this is a lot of work which will be done.
if only better recordings are prefered we can concentrate on those too. but i would prefere to transfer
and share them all.

I agree with you. Putting the B and C recordings "on hold" to focus on the good-sounding tapes usually means they'll never see the light of day for years... plus, there really aren't many A-grade shows left to be seeded.

Of the shows you transferred/could transfer, I have done the following:

74 07 13 St. Petersburg FL ~44 Aud (M-walk) (I've transferred the ~90 min version known as Tampa 07 07)

1975 10 12 Dallas, TX - Aud 80min B+/C+ °°° my list says ~85 vg-
1976 02 17 Köln, Germany - Aud 150min B/C+ °°° a long version ~147 vg-
1976 11 04 Landover (aka Largo), MD - Aud 70min B/B- °°° ~70 vg-

All of these are in the hands of, or on their way to, other Zappateers.

As long as there are shows in the B+/B- range in the "never seen as lossless" category, I will probably be hard to persuade into transferring C shows. (Note that I said "hard", not "impossible" Smile)

Do me a favor do this one some time. it was sampled once, so will retire samples. My copy was great an easy B+, but was damaged severely by my deck tape. This is bothering me, please replace it, even if B.

Hi ya friends,
So many shows, so many shows!
I have a question, is there a known recording of the 1st show in Kansas City, Nov. 11, 1977?
If so, can we see it hear in the future please?
Again I thank you all for sharing these wonderful gems !!

When we discover new shows ordinarily they get posted quickly (e.g. 12 29 76, 11 29 70 early) but of course they don't materialize that often.
