I did listen to it - it was quite... 'polite', I think. Will listen again, and to other Ives as all I've really heard was a raucous New England Holidays in concert.

I just won a prize of Oliver Coates' arrangment of John Adams' Canticles Of The Sky, on vinyl.
Fortunately enclosed was a code for a download in flac or wav format (and others).
The digital version has four more tracks than the vinyl, which is a 45rpm lp.
Going to give it a hearing tonight. _________________ 'Long as you can boogie, you ain't too old"

Caught a good chunk of the below on the radio a few weeks ago. No idea what it was but I started guessing it was some
Downtown NY persons take on Mod Classical. Turns out it was recorded in 1971. I was off by like 30 to 40 years.

a lot of it sounds like the soundtrack for a humourless Warner Brothers cartoon. |
FZ would've loved this quote!

Don’t knock Warner Brother’s cartoons. Back in the sixties before they rationalised the way they produced cartoons there was high quality animation, good music and engaging storylines. Does anyone here remember the line: This time, we didn’t forget the gravy! _________________ It's not what you think, it's what you do.

I remember. And what about "I want a whole lot of lumps!" And also "Shut up shuttin' up, rabbit."

I don’t recall those. Another good one was the singing frog. There’s a band that makes music using samples of that era, I just can’t think of the name right now. _________________ It's not what you think, it's what you do.

Yeah I'm with you on this - I bought the Carl Stalling CD when it was stocked by G&S Music, and there's some great stuff on it. It can be very fragmented, lots of bits chopped up and changes of pace and tone, odd jarring rhythms, very similar to some contemporary music. "Shall we take ourselves seriously..." :)

I’m reading Classical Music Expect the unexpected by Kent Nagano. He doesn’t say too much about FZ which is too bad but he does indicate he admires Ernst Krenek which my initial cursory forays finds quite nice. Thanks to whom ever mentioned Takemisu which although quite different I’ve also enjoyed.
