This interview implies he was rehearsing Zappa pieces with Dweezil, and the name Zappa Plays Zappa is mentioned at the end. Did that ever happen?

No, it was planned but he pulled out before the first tour.

Bassist Bryan Beller was also part of the first ZPZ line-up that rehearsed (with Ahmet) but didn't tour. Mike Keneally also helped Dweezil learn some of Frank's pieces (including Inca Roads and The Black Page).

Ahmet originally came up with the ZPZ concept, but 'scheduling conflicts' (Dweezil married Lauren Knudsen in September 2005; Ahmet's Mighty McFearless book was published in 2006, the same year he divorced Selma Blair) meant the planned first tour in 2005 with Flo & Eddie got scrapped.

Thanks for this. It's really interesting reading the very first threads in this ZPZ forum, because a lot of the posts were identical to the arguments against the Bizarre World tour, which tended to use ZPZ as a barometer of how things should be done. :)

Anyway, I've got a ticket for Hot Rats, and will be interested to see how they layer up the instrumentation, as the textures on Hot Rats have never been matched on stage, as far as I've heard...

This is exactly what I'm wondering. Although, I'll probably never get to see it live. There is no information being given out about how it will be presented other than the DNA level claim - whatever that means - for example, there's a big difference between my DNA and how I've actually turned out.
