A definite WOW. The cover quality is right out of a dream. It's geeky as hell to display album covers on the wall,
but I just may with this one. The lyric insert is printed on a nice, heavy stock. The JW tribute is printed so as to
never read: silver-grey type on a red, uncoated metallic paper. That said, not even sure I will play it. Have the ZFT cd,
and I doubt I would notice the difference. Still, no regrets buying.

PS totally forgot about the colored vinyl and just took a peak. It's beautiful! A painter's brush swirls. Like Don was dabbing
before he hit the canvas for the big moment. GET THIS, Beefheart fans.

These new re-issues are the same mastering for the ZFT CD release

But I guess it's an all analogue chain for this vinyl, right?

BTW, an unboxing video ...

No. Anything that needed serious "restoration" is cut from hi-res digital.

Yes, that makes of course sense - thanks for the info.

In this case, this new vinyl release is not an option for me - because I also have the ZFT CD.

I was wondering the same thing. Looks like ZFT had the mastering done in 2012 and cut the plates in 2013. The following is from someone at the Steve Hoffman Forum -

Well, the mystery is deeper than that because if you check the mastering credits under that paragraph it credits the cut to being done in 2013, and there are Pallas stamps in the deadwax despite it being pressed at Third Man. Also, I think there may even be two catalog numbers in the deadwax. So as far as we can tell they were intending to do a vinyl release after the CD and never got around to it, and then Jack White decided to make use of {the admittedly genuinely excellent} plates they had lying around. I have no doubt it's digital, but from the Zappa Trust's as well as White's track record of using analog if they can, and the paragraph indicating the tapes were fragile, and the provenance of the mastering engineers, that it was a reasonable choice in this instance.

It's kind of rediculous that one had to subscribe to some dubious marketing company to have the opportunity to acquire the way-cool Trout Mask Replica 50th anniversary album. I would like to see this album made available to majority of fans out there.

Charles Baudelaire
1821-1869

P.S. It was fast what they pulled and way too bulbous to swallow. I don't dig Third Man.

It's not the 50th Anniversary. That is next year. I'm sure that will not be missed. Wait it out.

^^and: Thanks, GM, for the interesting pressing/plates info above. From what I remember it is one of those vinyl vs. digital publishing issues. But then the ZFT seemed to back off of ANYTHING. Letting the CD go quickly out-of-print. Who the heck knows what it is all about. Warner-Rhino last VINYL press was 2016, I think. NO CD has been issued since the 2013 ZFT. Which sorta makes this never-been-out-of-print oddball classic now a not-so-readily-available oddball classic.^^

I found Wings La Mode (on Live, Love, Larf & Loaf) pretty memorable.

For those that are interested in such things...these appear to have new catalogue numbers.

Just a tiny bit surprised that no mention of the remastering is in the TMR description.

I haven't heard John's solo work, but he is undoubtedly an amazing musician and performs wonderfully on records by Henry Kaiser, Fred Frith and Richard Thompson - to name a few. In addition he is an excellent writer and chronicler, who's given more insight into the Lancaster scene that DVV and FZ came from than anybody else. No reason to belittle him.
