And which musicians would he snatch from the bands of today to play in his 2018 teenage rocking combo?

I wonder if he would use modern technology and avoid hiring anyone. I would love to see him compose for Zeena Parkins or Nels Cline... I like to think that he would have went full on Varese, but he might have reverted back to the Joe's Garage Champ Amp ethic... I can't imagine what would bend his ear nowadays - how I would love to know !! Damn, I miss having Frank around... He would have certainly been incensed about the current toxic political environment. It always played into the music.

The whole "gospel shop" school of playing has brought a trendous amount of mesmerizig musicians recently, I'm sure Zappa would have liked that. I recall seeing a couple of years ago a video of a japanese guy playing the Black Page #1 with amazing precision and taste.

I was listening to a lot of Mastodon yesterday, thinking they would really be his cup of coffee. Frank loved loud and heavy bands like Black Sabbath and Grand Funk Railroad. Mastodon sometimes have a very Zappa approach musically. Check out "Last Baron" or "Megalodon". Lead guitarist Brent Hinds is a huge Zappa fan. Brann Dailor would have made an excellent Zappa drummer.

this guy: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zQa5EyTCVZE

Since we're dreaming here, how about these folks as stage musicians playing all-new FZ compositions?
Morgan Ĺgren - drums
Mats Öberg - keys
Guthrie Govan - guitar
Ed Palermo Big Band including Katie Jacoby (violin)
Devin Townsend - bass and vocals (he says he likes playing bass)
Anneke van Giersbergen - vocals
Mike Keneally - multi-instrumentalist and vocals

Sadly, Devin's not that into FZ:

"I would never in a million years deny his brilliance - a thousand more than I'll ever be. I just felt like he used his intellect in a sense that sounded condescending to me. It was more like, [snobby voice] 'I'm really smart and I've got a bunch of smart people playing with a xylophone here and you're really dumb.'

That guy should get therapy, he's obviously got self esteem issues.

OK I get it, Devin won't work out. How about Tal Wilkenfeld on bass? Probably a better fit.

Pretty common perception. Meaning it is likely true!
But Frank developed. But those that hold to this vision thought he did nothing of worth after 19[insert # here]. THUS making THEM
the TRUE snobs! ha ha!

If you don't recognize it, you likely have arrogance or hero-worship issues.
