Last night I watched this movie about Colonel Bruce Hampton. He talks about meeting Zappa and the influence that FZ has on his music and approach. The movie is full of great interviews and performances of all the various band the Colonel was in over the years. That man was an under appreciated genius. Great movie, I highly recommend it.

I saw Hampton and his band open for the Mothers at the Fillmore East in 1971, and not again until a few years ago at a very casual outdoor venue in Asheville, NC, with some great young musicians. Frank played some of Bruce's records on his guest DJ sessions. Hampton was a true original. He had a heart attack on stage during a concert celebrating his 70th birthday and died shortly thereafter. Denny Walley was playing in the band at the show.
