Hi all, this is my first post here. I've been an interested listener to Frank for about 15 years but I'm currently diving right in, mostly inspired by Marc's trawl through the Zappa catalogue on the CoS Podcast.
My preference had previously been towards Hot Rats, BWS, Apostrophe'. I've now added Grand Wazoo, Waka Jakwaka and Sleep Dirt to my favourites.
I've arrived at Wazoo, which has blown my mind, particularly Approximate. The Ian Underwood synth solo is just wonderful.

Can anyone guide me to more Jazz Fusion recordings, I've got Little Dots, Joe's Domage and Trance-Fusion.

Thanks in advance

Some Old Guy

You might want to try the album Imaginary Diseases Petit Wazoo era live stuff.

A couple of my favorite "Jazz Fusion" numbers would include the track The Old Curiosity Shoppe from the album Finer Moments. It's a Billy the Mountain Solo and Ian Underwood kicks ass on the sax!!!

Another track you might be interested in would be Trudgeon across the Tundra from the album One Shot Deal. It's a from the same era as the Wazoo stuff and IMHO has a Miles Davis Bitches Brew feel to it.

Another suggestion would be the version of Dupree's Paradise off of the Road Tapes, Venue #2 cd. Circa 1973 yumminess with Ian Underwood, George Duke and Jean Luc Ponty

Have fun exploring there is still a lot out there to be discovered

I second getting Imaginary Diseases and Road Tapes 2 if you already have Wazoo and Little Dots. These four releases definitely showcase an interesting and fertile era that FZ sadly chose to omit when compiling the YCDTOSA series. I listened to "Farther O'Blivion" yesterday, it's brilliant to hear the "Steno Pool" bit from "The Adventures of Greggery Peccary" as instrumental brass-heavy theme rather than the slick comedy music refashioning in "Greggery".

...and if anything is not included in any of the above, get everything with - the one and only - GEORGE DUKE on it.

Yessssss !!!! Hats off to the Mighty George
Thank you, gents!

You might want to check George soloing also on Don't You Ever Wash That Thing (Roxy & Elsewhere) and Eat That Question (The Grand Wazoo).
Then I would go for The Roxy Performances.

Trudgin' Across The Tundra
Curiosity Shoppe
Dupree's Paradise
The Purple Lagoon/Approximate.
All brilliant. I absolutely love the version of Approximate on Wazoo, are there any other liver versions out there?

Approximate isn't on the official A Token Of His Extreme DVD. It's filmed from the same special but appears on The Dub Room Special DVD, just to clear that up.

Again The Old Curiosity Shoppe is a Billy the Mountain solo/jam if you liked that the check out the following solos/jams:

Billy The Mountain on Just Another Band From LA: solo/jam starts at or around the 27:38 mark

Billy The Mountain on Playground Psychotics: solo/jam starts at or around the 22:28 mark. It's short but sweet.

Billy The Mountain (Live/The Carnegie Solos) on Carnegie Hall: 13:30 a tasty solo/jam

These are all live! and were only played a handful of times.

And just remember a mountain is something you don't want to fuck with especially Billy.
