1978 01 29 Frankfurt Source #2 Comparison (peccary-Yojimbo-Arcorman) samples

----------------------------------------

I once again looked at this second recording source of the concert.
Maybe we can, regardless of patch material for the previous version,
create a 2nd version for the tracker.

I do not know what frank2441's cassette is, but just like BengoFury's version,
my cassette does not tell the generation.

For a better quality comparison, I just adjusted or raised the volume of
frank2441's and my recording to BengoFury's recording. Otherwise I have changed
nothing in the recordings, thus no speed correction.

Playback mode during digitization:
At the moment I can not say how the cassette was played by BengoFury and
frank2441 during the digitization. Anyway, I've played my cassette as usual in
TYPE I mode (Normal), which naturally adds a bit more noise. But of course
and as always without Dolby.

I think all three cassette versions (Yojimbo, peccary, Arcorman) contain
the same hitherto unpublished recording source #2. However, Yojimbo's
gen. cassettes may have been put together differently: The song "Wild Love"
ends at 7:33 minutes before a tapeflip, while the other two versions
go through here.

No problem.

It's my experience that for playback a type II chrome or type IV metal tape might sound better if played back at the normal type I position. Just listen as you switch back and forth - it'll be brighter in the highs at the norm position. If the deck does have auto tape type sensors it looks for those other holes beside the tape record tab - but you could cover the holes with a chunk of scotch tape or something to block them ...

While it might be more accurate to set the bias "correctly" according to what type of tape you're using, in this digital age that extra couple dB in the high range helps.

For best results always adjust tape head azimuth (re-align heads manually to match the tape you want played) ... This is the most important part of proper tape transfer, bar none!

Yes that's true, but I had no comparison at this time. Wink

Maybe I should digitize it with tape select CrO2, to minimize the noise?

Arcorman version sounds the best of these samples for sure.

OK, thanks for your feedback!

I will then begin to digitize Arcorman's tape to prepare it as a second recording source for the tracker.
