Cool story Martin! What a treat to be able to get all those scores and meet PB. Major kudos for doing your master's on Zappa.

Also, let me know if you ever find the score for Ruth is Sleeping. That would be a nice one to learn, if I can find a few years to set aside to it.

Thank you! Very Happy

Is zog still on zappateers? I suppose we could just ask him to upload the scores again.

I would still enjoy it if I could get a copy of the 200 Motels suites (since I suppose the score for the original soundtrack doesn't even exist anymore)

Yes, I know I'm commenting on a posting from 8 years ago, but so what.

I seem to remember a TV docu on FZ from around 89/90 where FZ took the journalist/interviewer down to the vault and showed him, among other things, the score of 200 Motels. Which version of it I don't know, of course.

I'd be rather surprised if FZ never kept a copy for himself. Also a photo from the set (printed in the album's booklet) shows him with what appears to be the/a score. I'd rather guess FZ's copy ist still in the vault (or wherever the vault is now) and they just could not retrieve it quickly when the 200 Motels suites thing came along. Also, the RPO might still have a copy (or at least the parts) in its archive, likewise conductor Elgar Howarth (who is apparently still alive) might have one or know something.

Also Friedrich Cerha (still alive though very old) or the Wiener Symphoniker might still have the scores from the cancelled 1979 Vienna concert (although I guess this is more or less the the stuff done with the LSO a few years later, so possibly even literally the same scores). BTW, if anyone should get/be in(to) contact with Edek Bartz, it would be interesting to learn his version of why the Vienna concert was cancelled as he is reportedly the one who initiated the whole thing.

Other ensembles or orchestras (EM, Kronos, Aspen Wind, etc.) might still have scores or parts. Whether they would make them accessible is a different question.
