Interesting to point out
that Don is making these few comments around some of the older Zappa compositions
and their 'former' titles:

Twenty Small Cigars seemingly was originally titled "Transition" (in Track 01),
and the original title to the song Eric Dolphy Memorial BBQ supposedly was "Hot Rats" (in Track 11).

Thank you.

Don has mentioned that in other concerts. And Bunk mentioned it to Billy James (Necessity Is…, p. 41).

That's news to me.

Before the second set at the Royal Albert Hall on June 6, 1969, FZ said, "We're going to play a song called 'Hot Rats'." (This has been edited out of Finer Moments.)

They did play Eric Dolphy Memorial Barbecue (with an additional module in the middle) in that set. But there's another candidate for the title "Hot Rats". I have long thought that it referred to the embryonic version of Low Budget.

Note that the session sheet for 10/6/69 lists two songs: Hot Rats and King Kong. The session sheet for 10/7/69 lists four songs: Twenty Small Cigars, America Drinks And Goes Home, The Idiot Bastard Son, and How Would You Like To Have A Head Like That?

There are six songs on JLP's King Kong album. By process of elimination, "Hot Rats" in the 10/6/69 session sheet must refer to Low Budget.

So it seems that the title was used for two completely different pieces and for an album containing neither of those pieces, all within a six-month period (May–October 1969).
